PRESS RELEASE: STATE GUARDS PERSONNEL INVOLVED IN A ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) regrets to inform the general public that a Road Traffic Accident (RTA) occurred this Sunday 13 September 2026 involving soldiers of the State Guards Battalion. The soldiers were travelling on a mission while es**rting Lady Sarjo Mballow Barrow when the rear es**rt vehicle had an accident around Kiang Kolior, Lower River Region en route to Jarra Soma. It was reported that the incident occurred while it was raining heavily around the region.

As a result of the RTA, Lance Corporal Bah Omar lost his life while one (1) soldier remains in a critical condition. Meanwhile, two (2) other soldiers on board the rear es**rt vehicle are stable and responding to treatment.
While we commiserate with the family of the deceased during these trying times, the GAF High Command prays that Allah grants the deceased eternal peace. Additionally, we pray for a very speedy recovery for those injured.

Action is lauder than words for Save Life Gambia .

Before, in front of Brufut Upper and Senior Secondary School gate, it was plain, no sign for pedestrian crossing and motorists flew over without minding who is on or next to the area.
With support from the National Roads Authority,The Gambia and other native partners, Save Life Gambia step up and now students and their scholars are enjoying the zebra crossing initiative aim to help them cross to and from the school safely.

Together, we can save many lives.

Is September, and is back to school month

Back to school is so exciting and is one of the favorite moment for children.

At this time, parents and guardians are busy buying new uniforms, new shoes and new bags for their children.

Students are expecting promotion from old grades to new grades and most of the times new schools.

With all this changes, this moment could be the best time to teach our children how to become independent road users.

Before our children leave home, let's give them simple road safety tips. Can we tell them to "LOOK LEFT, LOOK RIGHT and LEFT again. When the traffic is clear and safe to cross, then they cross". Every parent or guardian can do this to save life.

Motorists are also expected to aware that more young people will be on and next to our roadways during this period. Some of them for the first time using the road independently.

Thank you in advance to parents and motorists for your awareness as students return back to school soon this month.

A step closer to the first safer taxi stops in South Gambia

As part of our ongoing Shaded Bush Taxi Stops Project in South Gambia, Save Life Gambia volunteers together with its partners conducted a site study along the Kombo Coastal Highway.

The site visit covered the road from Tanji beach main junction to Tujereng main junction.

The team included representatives from SLG, WYCE and a technician from the National Roads Authority (NRA).

Starting from Tanji beach, the team visited different junctions where commuters regularly wait for taxis and where taxis stop to pick up and drop off passengers. At least10 key junctions were identified as possible locations for the proposed shaded taxi stops.

The proposed Shaded Bush Taxi Stops aims to provide safer and more organised places for passengers to wait and for taxis to stop.

This project is backed by Climate Focus B.V. and is being implemented by Save Life Gambia in partnership with WYCE Gambia.
