During our visit, we also supported students by helping them cross safely to and from school.

A recent flash report by The Gambia Police Force stated that one of their vehicles was involved in an accident, leaving one officer dead while others on board sustained minor injuries.

The fallen officer was Constable 9088 Lamin Badjie of Kerewan PIU. According to the GPF page https://www.facebook.com/PolisoMagazine, the sad incident occurred along the Jammeh K***a - Salikenni highway while they were on es**rt duties.

Road traffic crashes have become a serious public safety problem in The Gambia. What is more worrying is that some crashes now involve security personnel and official convoys during state duties.

Last year, The Gambia Armed Forces also reported the death of one of their personnel in a crash while traveling in an official convoy to the President’s home village Mankamang K***a in URR. The rising number of crashes involving security personnel is very worrying and calls for stronger road safety measures, public awareness campaigns, and urgent government action. Animal rearers should also properly control their animals to prevent them from straying onto roads and causing accidents.

Another young life perished too soon. Our deepest condolences to The Gambia Police Force and the entire Badjie K***a Family both home and abroad.

As part of our visit to Batokunku Primary School earlier today, we worked as crossing guards, helping students cross the road safely. This is part of our Safe Routes to School Project, which makes sure every child has a safe and healthy trip to and from school.

During our today’s visit to Batokunku Primary School, we caught up with the school’s headmistress Mrs Jarra Bittaye to take us how are they managing crossing students to school in the absence of the stationed police officers.

Take a listen.

We are back, this time stronger and even bigger.

Save Life Gambia has resumed activities under the “Safe Routes to School Project” with renewed strength and expanded efforts. Today, we visited Batokunku Primary School and met with the headmistress Mrs Jarra Buttaye to discuss how the school manages student crossings in the absence of stationed police officers.

We engaged her on a short tour of the school grounds and its vicinity, where we observed the zebra crossing infrastructure we installed in partnership with the National Road Authority (NRA) which is unfortunately washed out.

At the end of our engagement with the headmistress, we waited a while to witness the close of the morning shift. Our team then assisted both outgoing and incoming students for the afternoon shift in crossing safely.

Save Life Gambia remains committed to ensuring that every student enjoys a safe and healthy journey to and from school.
