Goal 2 of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development aims to achieve zero hunger. However, in The Gambia many children and their families regularly experience hunger.

The provision of a school lunch is a strong incentive for a child to attend school, enabling them to learn and play.

However, schools rely on funding in order to provide their children with a lunch - often their main meal of the day. While the World Food Programme plays an important role in providing food for schools, funding does not cover the full academic year.

Fundraising for Kaira Konko enables food to be delivered to local schools in need.

A Christmas Gift for The Gambia - £20 Maternity Kits 🎄🇬🇲

In The Gambia, medical facilities are often inaccessible, under-equipped and under-staffed.

To add to this challenge, expectant mothers need to provide their own maternity kit. This includes the provision of sanitary towels, soap, stitches and a bucket. Medical treatment also has to be paid for, including the simple comfort of using an electric fan during child birth.

A dangerous home birth is often the result for many women, who are unable to afford these items.

Kaira Konko aims to grow Scouting, education and opportunities.

Inspired by this aim, we seek to serve local schools in need. Many schools in and around Soma struggle to provide essential materials for teaching and learning.

Recent fundraising, further supported by the income from Kaira Konko Lodge, has enabled our project manager (Lamin Kinteh MBE) to respond to this call for help.

A warm welcome has surrounded Lamin Kinteh, as he’s visited remote, village schools - delivering crucial resources. This warm welcome, underpinned by sincere gratitude, extends to all supporters of Kaira Konko.

The donation and delivery of these important resources, including stationery items, lunch supplies and gardening equipment, will support schools to survive and flourish. The smiles in the photographs say it all.
