Strengthening MEAL Systems at Caritas Gambia

From 15–18 September 2026, Caritas Gambia received in-person technical assistance under the CRS EMPOWER Project to strengthen its Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) systems.

The four-day support focused on strengthening staff capacity in MEAL, digital data collection using KoboToolbox, data quality, Power BI, and evidence-based programme management.

The initiative is an important step towards building a more effective, digitalized and sustainable MEAL system across Caritas Gambia’s programmes.

Caritas Gambia has successfully concluded four days of in-person technical assistance under the CRS EMPOWER Project, held from 15–18 September 2026.

The training strengthened staff capacity in Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL), with practical sessions on KoboToolbox, data quality, Power BI, digital data collection, and evidence-based programme management.

As we wrap up, we look forward to putting these skills into practice—strengthening how we collect, analyze, use and learn from programme data to improve results and accountability.

A sincere thank you to Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and the EMPOWER Project for the technical support and continued partnership in strengthening Caritas Gambia’s institutional capacity.

Caritas Gambia conducted a two-day Safeguarding Training for its Disaster Risk Reduction Team in Soma, Lower River Region, from 3–4 September 2026, with support from the CRS EMPOWER Project.

The training covered safeguarding principles, professional conduct, risk identification, safe recruitment, reporting, complaints handling and accountability. Participants also discussed protecting children and vulnerable adults, maintaining confidentiality and applying safeguarding in daily programme work.

Caritas Gambia reaffirmed its zero-tolerance approach to safeguarding malpractice and its commitment to safe, respectful, accountable and inclusive programming.

Prepared before the crisis, stronger when it comes. 🌍🤝

Caritas Gambia recently completed a three-day Emergency Response and Preparedness Training in Soma, Lower River Region, bringing together 32 staff, parishioners and facilitators to strengthen practical skills in risk identification, emergency planning, rapid needs assessment and crisis response.

The training also included a field assessment around Soma’s main waterway, where participants identified risks such as flooding, waste accumulation, unsafe construction and poor sanitation, while considering the needs of vulnerable groups.

Preparedness starts with awareness, coordination and action.

Caritas Gambia remains committed to building safer and more resilient communities.
