Urban Gambia is experiencing electricity blackout with some communities reportedly enduring 24hrs power cut. During the Eid preparation, when power demand is naturally higher, the state utility company (NAWEC) introduced power load-shedding forcing revenue loss to many small businesses. In our latest Gambia Corruption Index (GCI), majority of the citizens linked NAWEC's poor performance and institutional ineffectiveness to corruption, ranking it as the 5th least corrupt institution in the country.
