The 34th International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) Council Meeting for Member Association Delegates is scheduled to take place from 10th to 14th June in Lisbon, Portugal. This important global forum brings together midwifery leaders and representatives of member associations to deliberate on key issues affecting midwives, midwifery education, regulation, and professional practice.

The Council Meeting serves as a platform for strategic decision-making and policy development, enabling midwives and their associations to address emerging challenges, advocate for reproductive rights and justice, and strengthen the advancement of midwifery as a profession worldwide. Discussions will focus on addressing the global shortage of midwives, reducing maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity, strengthening midwifery education, regulation, and practice, and advocating for increased investment in the midwifery workforce.

The theme of this year's meeting and congress is:

“One Million More Midwives.”

Following the Council Meeting, delegates will participate in the 34th ICM Triennial Congress, scheduled from 14th to 18th June 2026. Recognized as the world's largest gathering of midwives, the Congress brings together practitioners, educators, researchers, policymakers, and development partners from across the globe to share knowledge, exchange best practices, showcase innovations, and collectively advance the midwifery profession in support of improved maternal, newborn, and reproductive health outcomes worldwide.

Representing The Gambia is Mr. Samba Boye Secretary General of the National Association of Gambia Nurses and Midwives.
