International Women’s Day – Honouring Women in Medicine and Dentistry

Theme: Give to Gain

Today we celebrate the women doctors and dentists who have helped shape healthcare in The Gambia.

For generations, Gambian women in medicine and dentistry have cared for communities, broken barriers in their professions and inspired future health professionals. Their dedication continues to strengthen our hospitals, clinics and public health system.

As we mark International Women’s Day, we recognise their historic contributions and the vital role they play in improving health across the country.

Throughout the day and the rest of the month, the Medical and Dental Association of The Gambia (MDAG), in collaboration with the Medical Women’s Association of The Gambia will be sharing profiles of outstanding Gambian women doctors and dentists on our website and social media platforms.

Join us in celebrating their stories, achievements and impact.

Happy International Women’s Day.

Today, we celebrate the strength, courage, and brilliance of every woman in the FESSGam family, especially those living with epilepsy, caring for loved ones, and leading change in their communities.

At FESSGam, we honour:

• Women living with epilepsy who continue to rise with dignity
• Mothers and caregivers who fight for their children every single day
• Health workers, volunteers, and youth champions who stand with us
• Advocates who use their voices to break stigma and open doors

This year’s International Women’s Day reminds us that equality, safety, and dignity are not optional, they are essential. And together, we are building a future where every woman with epilepsy is seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.

To all the women in our community;
We see you. We celebrate you. We stand with you.

Happy International Women’s Day from all of us at FESSGam.

What Is Epilepsy? Let’s Talk About It. Let’s Change the Story.

Today, as part of our pledge on International Epilepsy Day, we are proud to launch a short educational videos in English, Mandingka and Wolof created in partnership with and the Ministry of Health The Gambia

This video break down one essential question:

👉 What is epilepsy? Because when people understand epilepsy, stigma loses its power. When communities learn the truth, misconceptions fade. And when we speak openly, people with epilepsy feel seen, safe, and included.

Epilepsy is not a curse.
It is not contagious.
It is not caused by spirits or wrongdoing.
It is a medical condition — and with the right care, people with epilepsy can live A fulfilled life.

📣📹Watch the video. Share them. Start a conversation. Every view, every share, every comment helps us build a seizure‑safe, stigma‑free Gambia.

Together, we can replace fear with facts.
Together, we can promote dignity, inclusion, and hope.
Together, we can make sure no one faces epilepsy alone.
