The Madison Kanifing Sister City Committee is proud to present this scholarship opportunity supporting women in The Gambia pursuing careers in healthcare.

📌 Eligibility Criteria:
• Female
• Gambian citizenship
• Eligible high school student or currently enrolled college student
• Active community volunteer (minimum 25 hours within the last year)
• Demonstrated academic achievement
• Financial need (verified through school)
• Must be applying to a higher education degree in healthcare
• Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA (semester grades required to continue receiving funding)

🎓 Council Approves D16.7 Million for Scholarships

At its monthly sitting on April 21, 2026, the Council unanimously approved a D16,777,439.42 budget to support student scholarships.

✔️ 265 continuing students (2025) – D6,968,089
✔️ 302 new students (2026) – D9,809,350.42

In total, 567 students will benefit from this initiative.

This investment reflects the Council’s commitment to enhancing access to education, in line with its 2025–2029 Strategic Blueprint.

Under the Joint SDG Fund, the ITC Gambia and the World Food Programme (WFP) Gambia are supporting the Brikama Area Council to apply the Human Security approach to local development planning and budgeting as part of efforts to localise the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As part of this support, the West Coast Region Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and staff of Brikama Area Council are currently participating in a day-long Stakeholder Dialogue on Human Security Approach to Development, at the Governor's Office in Brikama.

The dialogue is focusing on exploring the inclusion of a 𝐻𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝐺𝑟𝑜𝑤𝑛 𝑆𝑐ℎ𝑜𝑜𝑙 𝐹𝑒𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑚𝑚𝑒 within the Brikama Area Council’s development plan and budget, recognising school feeding as a cross-cutting Human Security intervention that supports education, nutrition, local livelihoods and social protection. The dialogue is expected to provide technical guidance and alignment to the participants.

As part of the project last year, Councillors and Chief Executive Officers from selected Local Councils participated in capacity-building on the Human Security model to strengthen their ability to address interconnected social, economic, and food security challenges at the community level.
