OUR STORY

Energy for Human Right-Gambiawas founded in February 2005 with centre office in 41 Kombo Sillah Drive Serekunda, The Gambia.

The organisation is a Non-Profitable Organisation aim to provide basic needs and improving the live and livelihood of children. The key area of focus is providing educational materials for students such as books, uniforms, bags, and other student stationaries. The organisation did not stop at given materials to students but also provides financial support at the end of every school term. Students are provided with health care, as the saying goes “health is wealth”. The organisation helps in preventing and creating awareness in the fight against Malaria.

The Organisation was able to refurbish 2 old classrooms to aid the grassroot education in Ballanghar Village, Central River Region. These 2 classrooms are aim in the development of Early Childhood education in the village, now we have two teachers paid by the Organisation to teach these children of ours.

Currently, the organisation is sponsoring 30 school going children, in which some are in Serekunda and others in Ballanghar Village. Sponsored students comprise Early Childhood Development (ECD), primary, middle, and Secondary school children and all are performing extremely well in their various schools.

One of the first student to be sponsored by the organisation completed an undergraduate degree in Economics at the Department of Economics and Management at the University of the Gambia in 2018. Currently he is pursuing his graduate degree in Economics at the university of Pisa, Italy.

The organisation helps women through micro-credit to venture in self-employment. This initiative is paying dividend to women in the rural Gambia, thus mitigating the rate of dependency and make them self-empowered.

Energy for Human Right-Gambia is partnering with:

§ Energia Per I Diritti Umani Onlus (Rome, Italy) we have an agreement for student sponsorship, stop malaria campaign, prevent Covid-19 pandemic and they helped in the refurbishment of the nursery classes in Ballanghar and payment of teachers salary. Energia Dalla Terra a group under Energia Per I Diritti Umani Onlus helped in establishing a garden project and a poultry project in Ballanghar which is aimed to provide a meal per day to the students at our nursery school.

§ PEOPLE FOR CHANGE (London, England), help in student sponsorship, provide school materials to Ballanghar Basic Cycle School, support in the Health area by providing yearly medical visits to Ballanghar health centre. This initiative is applauded by the Ministry of Health of The Gambia.

§ DIRITTI AL CUORE (Rome, Italy), also help by providing medical visits to Ballanghar health centre.

§ ONE LOVE (Rome, Italy), is currently constructing three (3) classroom blocks and renovating two (2) nursery classes in Kaur, Central River Region.

At this difficult moment to fight Covid-19, the organisation provides materials like soaps, detergents, hand sanitises, masks, gloves, and wash hand basins to Ballanghar and nearby villages to fight in the spread of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
