We are so happy to finally share this wonderful news with you! 💛
Thanks to Florence, Afrodidact member, and the incredible generosity of her friends , we raised enough funds to organize a menstrual health training for the young girls at our school, The Swallow, in The Gambia.
We were able to include this special program in our annual Summer Camp, making this summer even more meaningful.
On Thursday, the girls met their trainers, Adama and Rohey, who created a safe and open space where taboos could be broken and every question was welcome. Together, they talked openly about menstrual health, confidence, and self-care.
The girls also learned how to use reusable sanitary pads.
✨ Did you know?
Reusable sanitary pads should be changed every three hours. They can simply be washed with clean water—without using chemical soap—and are hygienically sterilized by ironing them with a hot iron.
On Friday, the girls started making their own reusable sanitary pads. They first learned how to create a pattern that perfectly suited their needs before sewing with colorful cotton and terry cloth fabrics. For several of them, it was their very first sewing experience!
Moments like these show that education is about so much more than learning in the classroom. It is about dignity, health, confidence, and creating opportunities that can change lives.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making this possible. ❤️
On behalf of Afrodidact, , the director of The Swallow, and all the students: thank you for believing in this project and helping us make a real difference in the lives of these young girls.
