Over the past three days, The Gambia Red Cross Society, with the support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Dakar Delegation, has brought together staff and board members to develop its 2027 Unified Plan, aligned with the evolving humanitarian needs of communities across The Gambia.

Through a participatory and results-oriented process, the workshop reviewed emerging risks, opportunities and priorities across disaster response, climate and environmental resilience, health and well-being, migration and displacement, and protection, gender and inclusion.

Participants also strengthened the National Society's enabling functions, including Humanitarian Diplomacy and Communication, National Society Development, Coordination and Cooperation, and Accountability, recognizing their critical role in enhancing impact, trust and sustainability.

The workshop marks an important step towards a stronger, more accountable and locally led National Society; one that is better equipped to anticipate, respond to and address the needs of vulnerable people, while amplifying the voice of humanity and strengthening partnerships for lasting change.

The Gambia Red Cross Society has deployed its GPlus Gambia ambulances at strategic locations in Sukuta and Sibanor following engagements with the IGP and regional authorities.

This initiative aims to support rapid response to road traffic accidents and other emergencies, ensuring timely assistance to those in need.

Today, the team in Sibanor responded to a road traffic accident, highlighting the importance of having trained responders and ambulances positioned close to communities.

This Eid al-Adha, The Gambia Red Cross Society, with the generous support of the الهلال الاحمر القطري Qatar Red Crescent, successfully distributed meat to over 450 vulnerable people across communities in The Gambia.

Through this humanitarian intervention, families were able to celebrate Eid with dignity, hope, and joy, as smiles and happiness lit up the faces of beneficiaries during this blessed occasion.

Our volunteers remained committed throughout the exercise, ensuring that support reached those most in need in a safe, fair, and dignified manner.

Yesterday, our team in NBR supported more than 90 migrants who were rescued by the authorities.

These are not just numbers but people who needed support.

Our teams provided them with nutritious dry rations, hygiene kits, psychosocial support, and restoration of family links.

For 60 years, The Gambia Red Cross Society has been more than an organisation, it has been a hand to hold in times of pain, a source of hope in moments of despair, and a symbol of humanity for the people of The Gambia.

Since 1966, we have stood with communities through disasters, emergencies, health crises, and difficult times; driven by compassion, volunteerism, and the belief that humanity must always come first.

This October 2026, we proudly mark 60 years of humanitarian service.
60 years of compassion.
60 years of solidarity.
60 years of restoring hope and dignity.

Behind every response are stories of lives touched, families supported, communities strengthened, and volunteers who chose service above self.

As we begin the countdown to this historic milestone, we honour everyone who has walked this journey with us: volunteers, staff, partners, supporters, and the people we serve.
