Earlier today, CETAG, together with 10 of its members, participated in a full-day IT training on data management held at Dalaba Ecolodge.

The training introduced participants to modern digital tools, including the use of Google platforms, to strengthen basic data management skills.

The participants represented various CETAG sub-committees, including the Finance Office, Media Team, and Data Collectors. This initiative aims to enhance CETAGโ€™s capacity to meet its digital responsibilities in line with advancing technology standards.

We sincerely thank our partner, Blue Ventures, for funding this important training. Our heartfelt appreciation also goes to Dr. Musa Touray, a proud native of Gunjur and senior lecturer at the University of The Gambia, for facilitating the session with dedication and expertise. Special thanks as well to Project Coordinator Ahmed Manjang for making this possible.

We are confident that all participants will greatly benefit from this training and continue to grow in their digital skills.

JUVENILE GREEN SEA TURTLE RESCUE & RELEASE
We are happy to share that a juvenile Green Sea Turtle was recently brought to The Turtle Village rescue by Luc, owner of Reptile Farm. The turtle is currently under our care, in good condition, and responding very well.
According to the young people who sold it to Luc, the turtle was originally obtained from fishermen most likely as accidental bycatch. This serves as an important reminder of the continued need for awareness, education, and collaboration with fishing communities to help reduce unintended impacts on marine wildlife.
Our team will collect all necessary data before releasing the turtle safely back into the ocean tomorrow, where it belongs.
Special thanks to Luc for his quick action, responsibility, and strong commitment to wildlife protection and conservation.

Lamin Jassey, Executive Director of CETAG: Take Us Through the 9 Nautical Mile Reserved Zone and Why It Matters for Small-Scale Fisheries

The 9 nautical mile reserved zone is crucial for protecting the future of small-scale fisheries. This nearshore area shelters juvenile fish, breeding grounds and fragile marine habitats that sustain artisanal fishing communities. It helps prevent conflict by keeping industrial vessels away from areas meant for local fishers, while also ensuring that families and markets continue to access affordable and nutritious fish. The zone also preserves the long-standing cultural traditions and identity of coastal communities.

CETAG, SANYEPD, Blue Ventures, AFWIC , Lascom, Nascom and other partners remain fully committed to promoting sustainable fisheries management, strengthening community involvement, and ensuring strict respect and enforcement of the 9-mile zone. Our joint efforts aim to protect livelihoods, preserve marine resources, and secure a healthier and more resilient future for coastal populations.

Heartfelt Appreciation from CETAG.

On behalf of the Gunjur Conservationists and Ecotourism Association (CETAG), we extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who joined us this evening for the baby turtle release and to all those who helped spread the word across different social media platforms. Your support truly means the world to us.

A special thank-you to the CETAG team, who, after a long day of hard work at the Turtle Village, continued their dedication by heading to Santosha Beach Bar and Restaurant to release more than 40 baby turtles into the ocean. Your passion and tireless commitment to conservation are deeply appreciated.

We also express our heartfelt thanks to the management and staff of Santosha Beach Bar and Restaurant for their continuous cooperation, for helping care for our turtle hatchery, and for regularly monitoring our nests to ensure successful hatching.

Finally, our warm appreciation goes to the tourists, their guides, and Gambian families who continue to support our work and recognise the importance of protecting these vulnerable marine species.
