When the floods come, they change everyday life.

In parts of The Gambia, every rainy season can mean damaged homes, health risks and families having to start over once again. But communities in Kombo North District decided not to wait for outside help.

Local Red Cross volunteers came together to prepare before the next emergency. Through football matches, food sales, cultural events and other community initiatives, they raised funds to train volunteers and strengthen their response capacity.

The result: 250 volunteers took part in a 10-day training camp and are now better prepared to protect their communities when floods hit.

This is what real change looks like: people coming together, using their own strengths, and creating solutions locally.

This is one of the inspiring stories featured in our book celebrating 10 years of Change the Game Academy.
