YOUTH REPRESENTATIVES SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE U-REPORT AMBASSADORS TRAINING IN TENDABA

We are pleased to inform the general public that Hon. Assanatou Jallow, our Youth Representative, alongside Hon. Mariama Juldeh Barry of the Children’s National Assembly of The Gambia, joined other young people from across the country for a five-day U-Report Ambassadors Training held from the 20th to 24th May 2026 at Tendaba in the Lower River Region (LRR).

During the training, participants engaged in several important and impactful sessions aimed at strengthening youth participation, advocacy, and awareness. The training began with an introduction to U-Report, where participants learned what U-Report is, its importance, and how young people can register by simply sending “JOIN” to 1234 using any GSM line.

The training highlighted the importance of youth voices in national development and decision-making processes through digital participation and communication. Participants also received training on advocacy and networking, emphasizing the need for young people to speak up for positive change while building strong connections with organizations, leaders, and fellow youths.

In addition, sessions on youth peace and security focused on the role of young people in promoting peace, unity, tolerance, and conflict prevention within communities. Discussions on civic awareness and youth advocacy further educated participants on their rights, responsibilities, active citizenship, and the importance of contributing meaningfully to community and national development.

The entire training was interactive, educational, empowering, and inspiring for all participants.

Congratulations to Hon. Assanatou Jallow and Hon. Mariama Juldeh Barry for successfully representing the region and joining the growing network of U-Report Ambassadors in The Gambia.

APPRECIATION & ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The Upper River Region Youth Committee extends profound appreciation and gratitude to Hon. Habibolie Jawo, Gambian Diplomat in Moscow, Russia, and former National Assembly Member for Jimara Constituency, for his generous support during the launch of the book Beyond the Borders authored by Lasana Sidibeh.

As part of his contribution towards promoting literature, youth empowerment, and intellectual growth, Hon. Habibolie Jawo purchased several copies of the book and further donated two copies to the Regional Youth Committee. The books were officially delivered and received by the Regional Youth Committee Leadership.

The Regional Youth Committee equally fulfilled its pledge made during the book launch by purchasing four copies of the book in support of the author and the promotion of reading culture among young people.

This gesture reflects a strong commitment towards empowering youth through education, knowledge sharing, and literature. We deeply appreciate Hon. Habibolie Jawo for continuously supporting initiatives that inspire young people to think beyond limitations and strive for a brighter future.

Together, we continue to promote a generation that reads, leads, and rises beyond borders.

Regional Youth Leadership Attends “Beyond the Borders” Book Launch

The Chairman of the Upper River Region Youth Committee, Hon. Mama Salieu Jallow, alongside his Vice Chairperson and the District Youth Chairpersons of Tumana and Kantora, proudly attended the official launch of the book Beyond the Borders authored by Lasana Sidibeh, a committed member of the executive committee in Wuli West.

During the occasion, Hon. Mama Salieu Jallow delivered an inspiring statement centered on youth empowerment, resilience, and leadership. In his remarks, he encouraged young people never to be ashamed of their stories or backgrounds, emphasizing that struggles should never define one’s destiny.

He further called on young people to rise above division, tribalism, hopelessness, violence, and self-doubt, while encouraging a generation that reads more, thinks deeper, loves harder, and works collectively towards building a better society.

Reflecting on the message of the book, the Regional Youth Chairman highlighted that many young people continue to battle invisible borders such as poverty, fear, rejection, and societal limitations. However, he stressed that such borders are not barriers meant to stop dreams, but challenges designed to strengthen determination and purpose.

The event was a powerful celebration of literature, ideas, courage, identity, and imagination, reminding everyone present that books remain an important tool for social transformation and youth inspiration.
