HIWI-The Gambia is thrilled to celebrate paediatrician Dr Musa Jaiteh who has recently become a member of West African College of Physiscians (MWACP part I), faculty of paediatrics. This membership is one of the prestigious accolades that qualifies Doctors in the subregion as specialists in their respective areas. Dr Jaiteh has now became one of the few Gambian specialists in paediatrics after passing his MWACP examinations in Ghana recently. The examination leading to the membership is one of the toughest and competitive postgraduate assessment for doctors in the subregion, and becoming a member, demonstrates Dr Jaiteh's commitment to providing quality healthcare for sick children in the Gambia.
With a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Dr Jaiteh is part of the 1st batch of Gambian trained paediatricians accredited by West African College of Physicians.
Dr Jaiteh's journey into medicine began from a humble begining. He was born and raised in Kuntaur Fulla K***a in the Central River Region North of the Gambia and attended Kuntaur Primary and Junior Secondary Schools. After passing his GABECE, Dr Jaiteh moved to Nustrat High School in Bundung where he sat to the WASSC examinations and passed as the best science student of his cohort. His intelligence, love for science and desire to care for people led him to join the School of Medicine & Allied Health Sciences of The University of The Gambia, where he graduated in 2014 with a first class medical degree.
Dr Jaiteh has been working at the paediatrics department of Edward Francis Teaching Hospital in Banjul since 2015 with dedication and commitment. Through his work, he has saved many children's lives and has put smiles on the faces of many patients and their families. Therefore join us in congratulating paedtrician Dr Musa Jaiteh on becoming a Fellow of West African College of Physicians. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ™‚

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has recently declared the current upsurge of MonkeyPox Virus (MPOX) disease as a public health emergency of international concern(PHEIC). This declaration came as a result of the rising cases of MPOX in democratic republic of Congo and other African countries like Uganda, Burundi, Uganda, Central African Republic and Kenya. Although there is no cause for panic, this announcement is geared to promote a concerted international response through coordination, resource mobilisation, research and effective management of cases to curb transmission of this contagious disease. Thus, it is important for all countries, including The Gambia, to take this declaration serious and set their health systems on 'preparedness and response mode'. The ministries of health of all African countries in collaboration with partners should be proactive and put together the resources required to deal with potential cases and stop transmission.
