From left to right: Fatoumatta, Fatou Tamba and Aisha.

They are from Foni.

Through our Peacebuilding Fund-supported project, they completed training in hairdressing and beauty and graduated last week.

They now have skills they can use to earn an income and support themselves.

This is what peacebuilding looks like in practice: investing in young people, creating economic opportunities and strengthening social cohesion through empowerment.

A total of 40 youths from Foni have successfully graduated from Crab Island TVET Foundation Centre. These students successfully completed a 9-month intensive technical and vocational skills training programme in hairdressing and beauty, solar and electrical installation with industrial attachments, sponsored by the ITC Gambia under the Peace-building Fund initiative. The initiative is one of FARD's partnerships with ITC and aims to equip young people from Foni with practical and relevant vocational skills that enhance employability, promote self-reliance, and contribute to sustainable peace and community development.

The graduation ceremony was attended by our Vice Chairperson Mrs. Mariama Jammeh and Education Secretary Mr. Omar Bojang who both applauded the graduates for their relentless commitment and thanked ITC for funding this landmark initiative. As part of the sponsorship program by ITC, 25 of the graduates will receive startup materials to support them in establishing their own vocational enterprises and sustainable livelihoods.

This reflects a shared commitment by ITC and FARD to invest in youth, skills development, and peace-building through inclusive and sustainable economic opportunities.

Additionally, another cohort of students is currently undergoing similar training at Sterling, with their graduation also on the horizon.

FARD expresses immense gratitude to ITC Gambia for their continued collaboration and congratulates all graduates, encouraging them to remain dedicated, disciplined, and uphold the core values of FARD.
