Future In Our Hands The Gambia (FIOHTG) has kicked off a 10-day transformative ReFLECT training bringing together ROOTS REFLECT Facilitators and Field Assistants. The training is currently ongoing in Jamali Ganyado in the Central River Region.

The intensive hands-on training is meant to equip participants with practical REFLECT tools, participatory facilitation skills, and empowerment strategies aimed at strengthening community engagement and improving sustainable agriculture practices.

The methodology employed encourages interactive learning, group discussions, practical exercises, and experience sharing among participants to enhance their capacity to mobilize communities and promote inclusive participation.

The training also builds a strong network of empowered facilitators and Field Assistants who are committed to driving positive change, strengthening community resilience, and promoting sustainable development at the grassroots level.

Future In Our Hands The Gambia (FIOHTG) has on Friday 8th May 2026 signed a contract agreement with selected service providers for the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) component of the PIVUTAAL project.

The signing ceremony was held at the FIOHTG complex in Kotu South.

The agreements with the selected contractors are to deliver the following at designated health facilities: the installation of a solar system, water reticulation systems, landscaping and pavement works and supply of WASH materials.

The PIVUTAAL project, supported by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance,through Mannion Daniels, aims to increase vaccination uptake by enhancing access, increasing awareness, and encouraging community learning.

The WASH component is critical for strengthening health facilities to support safe immunization services.

Future In Our Hands The Gambia (FIOHTG) on Wednesday, 6 May 2026 signed a contract agreement with Digital Plus at Kotu South.

The agreement will ensures timely production, support, transportation, and installation of high-quality Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) and visibility materials.

These materials will be used to strengthen vaccine and immunization awareness activities under the PIVUTAAL project.

The PIVUTAAL project, which is supported by Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, aims to increase vaccination uptake through enhancing access, increasing awareness, and encouraging community learning.

FIOHTG and Digital Plus aim to deliver clear, impactful messaging that encourages communities to embrace immunization and safeguard public health.

Future In Our Hands The Gambia (FIOHTG) on Wednesday received a delegation from Mothers for Health Foundation at its complex in Kotu South.

The delegation was led by Mothers Health Foundation founder, Rohey Sey-Corr.

The visit aims to explore collaboration and partnership with FIOHTG on issues related to women empowerment initiatives and to strengthen the campaign against the use of ‘Taba’.

Discussions focused on how both organisations could combine efforts to address the health and social impacts of ‘Taba’ while expanding opportunities for women in communities across the country to thrive socio-economically.

Future In Our Hands The Gambia (FIOHTG) on Wednesday 22nd April 2026 conducted a one-day orientation for staff on Promoting Immunisation &Vaccine Uptake Through Access, Awareness and Learning (PIVUTAAL)held at the FIOHTG conference room. The project is funded by Gavi the vaccine alliance.

The orientation aims to strengthen staff understanding of the project’s objectives, immunisation standards, key messaging for immunisation programming, and reporting requirements.

Participants learn a plethora of activities ranging from project concepts, national immunisation standards, community engagement strategies, documentation, and accountability mechanisms.

The PIVUTAAL project seeks to increase vaccine uptake through improved access, awareness creation, and community learning.

Future In Our Hands The Gambia (FIOHTG), with funding from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) Project, is currently implementing a five-day community sensitization campaign on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) across five communities in the Upper River and Central River Regions.

The campaign is being held in the communities of Misra, Jakaba, Manakoto, Tubanding, and Daru, with 40 participants per community for a total of 200 direct beneficiaries.

The training focuses on STI types, modes of transmission, prevention measures, and the importance of early care-seeking and treatment. Facilitators are using interactive dialogue to tackle misinformation and reduce stigma around sexual and reproductive health.

Participants also include breastfeeding women, girls, youth, and elderly community members. This mix is highly relevant because it ensures that STI prevention messages reach key groups across the community.

The initiative forms part of FIOHTG's broader work to promote community health and resilience. Through the SIDA-funded outreach, the organization says it is helping communities build the knowledge and confidence needed to prevent STIs and promote healthier lives.

Future In Our Hands The Gambia (FIOHTG) on Tuesday, 31st March,2026, welcomed students from Supdeco University, led by Abdou Faye, Director of Supdeco Campus Banjul, to the FIOHTG complex in Kotu South.

The meeting provided the delegation with insight into the organisation's work, FIOHTG's mandate, programmes, and policies, and some of the successes registered thus far.

The discussion highlighted FIOHTG's successes in food security, cereal bank capitalisation, women's empowerment, school infrastructure, in-service teacher training, and community development programmes, among others.

The delegation extolled the work of FIOHTG and sought future collaboration in the various thematic areas discussed.

Future In Our Hands The Gambia (FIOHTG) through the Community Development Unit has kick-off a weeklong civic education initiative in Prince and Kerr Mama in the Upper Niumi District in the North Bank Region.

The activity brought together 80 participants from surrounding villages to promote democratic awareness, responsible citizenship, and community peace. The activity is funded by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) of The Gambia Groups.

The participants were engaged in a plethora of activities ranging from, equal participation of women and men in decision-making to understanding citizens' rights and responsibilities.

The forum also promotes unity and peaceful coexistence, particularly in electoral cycles.

The initiative is part of FIOHTG's nationwide civic education efforts aims to empower citizens with knowledge and boost confidence for a participatory democratic processes.
