Future In Our Hands The Gambia (FIOHTG) on Thursday, August 6, 2026, conducted a one-day validation of its Anti-Corruption, Anti-Bribery, and Fraud Policy at the organization's complex in Kotu South. The aim of the validation was to strengthen the organization's commitment to prevent, detect, report, and respond to corruption, bribery, fraud, and money laundering. It also envisages ensuring the transparent, accountable, and lawful use of FIOHTG funds, assets, and institutional authority in line with governance standards.

In a related but distinct activity, FIOHTG's Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) unit held a learning session on ROOTS, Think Equal, and SIDA-funded project activities, focusing on the outcomes, impacts, challenges, and recommendations implemented by FIOHTG. Staff members had the chance to discuss best practices, consider lessons learned, and evaluate how project accomplishments support FIOHTG's larger goal of enhancing the lives of communities.

Future In Our Hands The Gambia (FIOHTG) on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, conducted one-day training for its staff on the use of the APS digital payment portal. The training was facilitated by officials from APS Microfinance.

The training aims to equip participants with the requisite knowledge and practical skills needed to conduct financial transactions using the APS digital payment platform.

At the end of the training, participants learned a plethora of features in digital payment, ranging from payment processing and account management to other crucial attributes designed to improve accountability and efficiency in financial transactions.

The ceremony brought together FIOHTG management and staff to celebrate Karl's contributions throughout his internship.

His professionalism, effort, and commitment were instrumental in advancing the organization's strategic goals.

The event concluded with the presentation of a gift and best wishes to Karl as he embarks on the next chapter of his academic and professional journey.

Future In Our Hands The Gambia (FIOHTG), through its Community Development Unit with funding from SIDA, has commenced practical training techniques for farmers in horticulture, beekeeping, animal husbandry, and tree nursery management, held at Prince in the North Bank Region.

The session included hands-on demonstrations on bed preparation, compost application, livestock management, and the use of agricultural tools to promote sustainable farming and improved productivity, and to encourage ecologically friendly farming practices while empowering women and youth in the drive for food security in their local communities.

The program demonstrates FIOHTG's ongoing dedication to providing rural farmers with useful information and cutting-edge methods that support sustainable livelihoods and community development.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both organisations to share insights into their respective missions, programmes, and approaches to community development. Discussions focused on organisational operations, the impact of their interventions, and the importance of community-driven development in creating sustainable change.

The engagement also highlighted several potential areas for future collaboration, with both organisations expressing shared values and a commitment to empowering community participation and improving the well-being of vulnerable populations in The Gambia.

Future In Our Hands The Gambia (FIOHTG), together with its implementing partners, successfully convened the Quarterly Planning and Review Meeting for the GAVI-funded PIVUTAAL Project to evaluate progress, strengthen collaboration, and chart the course for the next phase of implementation.

The meeting brought together representatives from FIOHTG, Youth Action for Food Self-Sufficiency and Education (YAFSE), TANGO, and other key stakeholders to review project performance, monitoring and supportive supervision findings, financial and procurement updates, and implementation progress.

Key outcomes of the meeting included:
✅ Validation of progress against quarterly targets and project deliverables.
✅ Identification of implementation gaps and agreement on practical corrective actions.
✅ Endorsement of priority interventions to strengthen monitoring, supportive supervision, reporting, and data quality.
✅ Approval of a coordinated quarterly implementation plan with clear responsibilities and timelines.
✅ Reinforced collaboration and accountability among partners to accelerate project delivery and maximise impact in target communities.

In her remarks, Jainaba T. Sarr Country Director of FIOHTG, commended the commitment and collaboration of all implementing partners. She highlighted that joint monitoring and supportive supervision have strengthened accountability, improved coordination, and contributed to the successful implementation of WASH and community sensitisation activities that continue to increase demand for immunisation and other essential health services.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all partners to implement the agreed action points, sustain the gains achieved, and work collectively towards stronger immunisation systems, healthier communities, and lasting impact across the project's implementation areas.

Future In Our Hands The Gambia (FIOHTG), through its School Development Unit and with funding from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), has successfully completed a four-day sensitisation training on puberty changes in children and adolescents. The training took place at Kabakoto Lower and Upper Basic School in Nuimi District and Medina Sasita Basic Cycle School in the Lower River Region.

The programme gathered a diverse group of participants, including students, mothers, teacher coordinators, cluster monitors, and other key education stakeholders.

Upon completion of the training, participants gained knowledge on crucial topics such as understanding puberty and its significance, normal physical, emotional, and psychological changes during puberty, personal hygiene and self-care practices, and building self-confidence while promoting healthy lifestyles during adolescence.

Maimuna Jawo from ActionAid International The Gambia facilitated the training, guiding participants through interactive discussions and practical learning activities.

The training forms part of FIOHTG's ongoing commitment to improving the health, well-being, and educational development of children and adolescents by providing communities with accurate information and valuable life skills.

Future In Our Hands The Gambia (FIOHTG), in partnership with Youth Action for Food Self-Sufficiency and Education (YAFSE), has concluded a week-long monitoring mission to assess the implementation of the GAVI-funded PIVUTAAL Project in Madina Angalleh, Madina Sancha in Lower River Region, Ballangharr, Buduck; Kataba Omar Ndow in CRR-N and Jissadi in CRR-S.

The monitoring mission was out to assess project infrastructure, including water reticulation systems, solar installations, boreholes, tanks, pavements, landscaping, health facility standards, and school involvement.

The PIVUTAAL Project funded by GAVI is part of broader efforts to improve equitable access to immunization services and strengthen community participation in promoting public health across The Gambia.

Future In Our Hands The Gambia (FIOHTG), in partnership with Youth Action for Food Self-Sufficiency and Education (YAFSE), has commenced a week-long monitoring mission to assess the implementation of the GAVI-funded PIVUTAAL Project in communities in the Lower River Region (LRR) and Central River Region (CRR).

The visits focus on reviewing project infrastructure, including water reticulation systems, solar installations, boreholes, tanks, pavements, landscaping, health facility standards, and school involvement.

The monitoring team, comprising FIOHTG representatives, EPI officials, Board Member, GAVI Strategic Advisor, the Project Manager, CSO partners such as TANGO, YAFSE and Technical Staff, is engaging community leaders and beneficiaries, reviewing project records, verifying achievements, identifying challenges, and documenting lessons learned to improve future interventions.

The mission began with meetings at the Regional Health Directorate in Mansakonko, where stakeholders discussed the project's objective of increasing vaccine uptake and immunization coverage.

FIOHTG Country Director Jainaba T. Sarr emphasized that the project's goal is to boost vaccine uptake by working closely with regional health authorities and community stakeholders.

The FIOHTG Board's vice chairperson, Dr. Saikou Gassama, emphasized the organization's complementary role in assisting government initiatives to increase immunization coverage.

He highlighted the value of working with local officials, pointing out that without solid alliances and community support, accomplishing the project's goals would be challenging.

Additionally, the delegation paid a courtesy call on Seedy Lamin Bah, the Governor of the Lower River Region in Mansakonko, and Ousman Bah, Governor of the Central River Region where they were briefed on the goals and anticipated results of the PIVUTAAL Project.

As the mission continues to evaluate project implementation and fortify partnerships aimed at enhancing vaccine uptake throughout the nation.

Similar stakeholder engagements and monitoring activities are planned in Ballanghar, Buduck, Kataba Omar Ndow, and Jissadi in CRR-N and CRR-S, respectively.

The PIVUTAAL Project funded by GAVI is part of broader efforts to improve equitable access to immunization services and strengthen community participation in promoting public health across The Gambia.
