Statement on the Electricity Crisis in The Gambia
We stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of The Gambia in this time of deep frustration and hardship. The ongoing electricity crisis is a denial of dignity, a betrayal of trust, and a stark reminder that government has failed in its most basic mandate: to provide essential services for a nation as small and resilient as ours.
Children study by candlelight, mothers struggle to keep households afloat, businesses collapse under the weight of darkness, and communities are left in despair. This is not the future Gambians deserve. Electricity and water are not privileges; they are rights.
We demand accountability. We demand urgency. We demand that those entrusted with leadership fulfill their duty to the people. The cries of citizens are not noise; they are the heartbeat of democracy.
Yet, as we continue to demand our rights, let our actions remain within the confines of the law. Let our outrage be disciplined, our voices peaceful, and our struggle rooted in justice. For it is through lawful resistance that we preserve the integrity of our cause and ensure that the light of democracy shines brighter than any bulb.
The Gambia deserves better. The people deserve better. And together, we will not relent until justice is electrified across every home, every street, and every heart.
