Through the mentorship, mentees gained new knowledge, practical skills, and experiences that will continue to shape their growth and the impact they make in their communities.

We are grateful to UNFPA The Gambia and our partners for supporting this journey and investing in young people.

Congratulations to our mentees. Here’s to taking everything you’ve learned into the next chapter. 🤍

We are honored to have represented The Gambia through our chairperson at in Niger 🇳🇪, held under the theme: “Sahelian youth at the heart of security and innovation, for a sovereign, resilient, and prosperous Sahel.”

Youth Connekt Sahel provided a diverse platform to network, learn, collaborate, and engage alongside fellow young leaders shaping critical discussions and providing solutions on civic engagement, policy, peace and stability, digital technology, and economic inclusion.

With approximately 65% of the Sahel region’s population under the age of 25, we represent the most youthful geographic region in the world. Yet, our generation remains disproportionately vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, unemployment, and conflict. This reality demands urgent, intentional action to secure a better future for young people across the Sahel and Africa at large.

As a delegate, my priority was ensuring that the voices and pressing concerns of Gambian youths were strongly represented. I was privileged to contribute directly to the drafting of the Sahel Declaration, which was formally presented to regional governments. The declaration aims to tackle these systemic challenges head-on and harness the demographic dividend by empowering young people to drive sustainable development and peace.

I extend my sincere gratitude to UNFPA The Gambia for their invaluable support and commitment to empowering youth leadership.

I leave this message to the young people of The Gambia and across the Sahel - Our future will not be handed to us, we must continue to build it. Let us step up, occupy decision-making spaces, and turn our potential into actionable impact.

AfriYAN is proud to represent The Gambia at the 3rd YouthConnekt Sahel Forum, taking place in Niamey, Niger, under the theme:

“Sahelian Youth and Refoundation: Building a Sovereign, Resilient and Prosperous Sahel.”

As a youth-led organisation committed to advancing s*xual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality, comprehensive s*xuality education and meaningful youth participation, we are joining young leaders from across the region to contribute to conversations on the future we want to build.

For us, a resilient and prosperous Sahel is one where young people are informed, empowered, healthy and meaningfully involved in shaping the decisions that affect their lives and communities.

We are grateful to UNFPA The Gambia for solely supporting the participation of our Chairperson, creating an opportunity for Gambian youth voices to be represented in such an important regional platform.

We look forward to connecting, learning, advocating and building partnerships with young people and stakeholders across the Sahel. 🤝🏾

The Gambian Delegation led by Permanent Secretary, Mr. Bulli Dibba, is currently at YouthConnekt Sahel Forum’26 in Niger, Niamey to join other countries from 10 to 12 August to connect, innovate and invest in Sahelian youth.
