Yesterday, our boys at Barra United FA gave everything on the pitch against Jalikasa FC. It was a tough and smart battle from start to finish, but unfortunately the match ended 2-1 in favor of Jalikasa FC.

Despite the defeat, we remain proud of our boys for their effort, determination, and fighting spirit throughout the game. We believe in this team, and we know stronger performances and better results will come next time.

Today, the Alkalo of Barra convened a community meeting to discuss several important matters affecting the area.

The first agenda focused on boat related issues, particularly concerns about foreigners seeking to operate boats within the community’s waters. Members expressed worries that such activities could contribute to irregular migration, especially considering that some individuals may already be familiar with previous routes and locations used for such movements.

The second agenda addressed the misuse of community cartons by unknown individuals. Discussions were held on the need for proper monitoring and accountability to prevent further misuse.

Another major issue discussed was the functioning of the Village Development Committee (VDC). Concerns were raised about the inactivity of some executive members, which has negatively affected community development and delayed several important activities and decisions.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the elders and VDC of the community were tasked with engaging those working at the boat side and are native of the community in a dialogue to further discuss the issues raised and seek peaceful and practical solutions for the benefit of the community.

Musa Sanyang and Lamin Joof were on target, each scoring a goal to lead the team to success.

The boys showed great determination, teamwork, and resilience throughout the match. We are truly proud of their performance and commitment, we hope this team work continues among them.

Barra United faced Edinburgh in a tough contest that ended 2–2.
Musa Sanyang delivered a brilliant free kick once again, while Lamin Joof added the second goal.

Our Village Development Committee Chairperson Ramoou Ndow currently attending a Match Commissioner Workshop organized by Confederation of African Football of African Football in Cairo, Egypt. The workshop brings together 139 participants from various African countries including , and she is proud to be the youngest among them.

The primary objective of their workshop is to strengthen the capacity of CAF Match Commissioners by enhancing their understanding of their roles and responsibilities during football matches. As representatives of CAF, Match Commissioners play a critical role in ensuring that all competitions are conducted in full compliance with CAF regulations.

Their responsibilities include supervising match operations, ensuring adherence to official guidelines, and maintaining the integrity and smooth running of matches across all host countries.

Today, The Gambia Immigration Department visited the Barra community to engage in a meaningful dialogue with residents. Although Barra is not a border town, but it serves as an important entry point, making collaboration between the community and immigration authorities essential.

The discussion focused on strengthening relationships, improving communication, and ensuring better cooperation between both parties. Key topics included irregular migration, effective ways to report concerns through the police, sexual harassment, human rights, and how the community can work closely with immigration officials.

Community members including women leaders, the Imam, youth representatives, elders, and the Village Development Committee (VDC), Vendor representative, actively participated and shared valuable insights, concerns, and recommendations on how to build a more effective partnership.

This is indeed something new and for the first time we are seeing it, so, we sincerely appreciate the Immigration Department’s efforts to engage directly with the community and their commitment to positive change. We look forward to continued collaboration and a successful working relationship that benefits everyone.
