The Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, met with his Gambian counterpart 🇬🇲🇪🇬🤝

Dr. Hani Sewilam, the Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, met with his Gambian counterpart, Musa Drammeh, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the field of water resources between Egypt and Gambia.

Objectives of the MoU:

- Cooperation in integrated water management and joint river management.
- Use of desalination and rainwater harvesting technologies.
- Development of prediction and early warning systems to address climate changes.
- Combating desertification.
- Enhancing scientific cooperation and training.

Statements by Dr. Sewilam:

- He emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership between Egypt and Gambia to address the challenges of water scarcity, climate change, and desertification.
- He expressed Egypt’s readiness to share its expertise in water management, modern irrigation, flood prediction, and dealing with floods with Gambia.
- He pointed out the enhancement of scientific cooperation, the possibility of sending Egyptian experts to assess the water resources situation in Gambia, and training Gambian personnel in Egypt.
- He expressed his happiness with Gambia joining the AWARe initiative, highlighting its importance in providing the necessary funding for climate adaptation projects.

- He expressed his pleasure in meeting Dr. Sewilam and affirmed his country's keenness to strengthen cooperation with Egypt in the field of water resources.

Cooperation Measures:

- Organizing training courses for Gambian personnel in Egypt through the African Water and Climate Adaptation Center (PACWA).
- Joint coordination in regional and international events.

Gambia’s Role in the African Ministers' Council on Water (AMCOW):

- Dr. Sewilam stressed the importance of enhancing Gambia's role in AMCOW to explore innovative solutions to water challenges in Africa and to work on formulating a common vision for post-2025.

Signing of the MoU:

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the Gambian Ministry of Water Resources and Fisheries to enhance cooperation in integrated water resources management, joint river management, the use of advanced desalination and rainwater harvesting technologies, the development of climate change prediction and early warning systems, and combating desertification. The MoU also includes facilitating high-level technical visits, information exchange, organizing joint workshops on common interest topics, and encouraging research institutions in both countries to undertake joint research projects and exchange research information, experts, and trainees.

الأستاذ الدكتور/ هانى سويلم يلتقى وزير الموارد المائية بدولة جامبيا ، ويوقعان مذكرة تفاهم للتعاون بين مصر وجامبيا في مجال الموارد المائية

مذكرة التفاهم تهدف للتعاون في مجالات الإدارة المتكاملة للمياه وإدارة الأنهار المشتركة والتحلية وحصاد مياه الأمطار والتنبؤ والإنذار المبكر ومكافحة التصحر والتعاون العلمى والتدريب

الدكتور سويلم :

إستقبل السيد الأستاذ الدكتور/ هانى سويلم وزير الموارد المائية والرى ، السيد/ موسى دراميه وزير الموارد المائية والمصايد بدولة جامبيا .

وخلال اللقاء أعرب الدكتور سويلم عن سعادته بلقاء الوزير الجامبى ، وأن هذا اللقاء يأتى في إطار التواصل لتعزيز التعاون بين مصر وجامبيا فى مجال الموارد المائية ، ومن جانبه أعرب السيد دراميه عن سعادته بلقاء الدكتور سويلم وحرص بلاده على تعزيز التعاون مع مصر فى مجال المياه فى ظل العلاقات الطيبة بين البلدين .

وخلال اللقاء .. أشار الدكتور سويلم لأهمية الشراكة الاستراتيجية بين مصر وجامبيا وخاصة فى مجال إدارة المياه للتعامل مع تحديات ندرة المياه وتأثيرات تغير المناخ والتصحر وأثره على الزراعة والأمن الغذائي ، وإدارة الأنهار المشتركة (مثل نهر النيل ونهر جامبيا) ، معرباً عن إستعداد مصر لنقل تجاربها الناجحة في مجال إدارة المياه ومعالجة وإعادة إستخدام المياه والرى الحديث والتنبؤ بالفيضان والتعامل مع أخطار السيول للجانب الجامبى ، مع تعزيز التعاون العلمي بين البلدين و وضع برامج بحثية مشتركة بين الجامعات والمعاهد من البلدين ، وإمكانية إرسال خبراء مصريين لتقييم حالة الموارد المائية في جامبيا ومقترحات للتعامل مع تحديات المياه بها ، وتنظيم دورات تدريبية للكوادر الجامبية في مصر من خلال "المركز الإفريقى للمياه والتكيف المناخى" PACWA ، والتنسيق المشترك في كافة الفعاليات الإقليمية والدولية .

كما أعرب الدكتور سويلم عن سعادته بإنضمام دولة جامبيا للمبادرة الدولية للتكيف مع التغيرات المناخية AWARe ضمن ٣٥ دولة إنضمت للمبادرة حتى الآن ، مشيراً لأهمية هذه المبادرة لدولة جامبيا فى توفير التمويلات اللازمة لتنفيذ مشروعات على الأرض فى مجال التكيف في قطاع المياه ومواجهة التحديات الناجمة عن تغير المناخ ، حيث تقوم المنظمات الدولية الرائدة بالمبادرة حالياً بوضع خطط عمل لكل مسار من مسارات المبادرة وفقاً للأولويات الوطنية للدول المشاركة بالمبادرة .

وفيما يخص مجلس وزراء المياه الأفارقة (الأمكاو) .. فقد أشار الدكتور سويلم لأهمية تعزيز دور دولة جامبيا ضمن الفعاليات والأنشطة المختلفة التي يتم تنظيمها تحت مظلة الأمكاو ، لاستكشاف المزيد من الحلول المبتكرة للتعامل مع تحديات المياه في أفريقيا ، وتسريع وتيرة العمل لصياغة رؤية أفريقيا لما بعد عام ٢٠٢٥ ، ومواصلة بناء موقف أفريقي موحد بشأن قضايا المياه والمناخ بالقارة الإفريقية والعالم .

وعقب اللقاء قام الدكتور سويلم والسيد دراميه بتوقيع مذكرة تفاهم بين وزارة الموارد المائية والرى بجمهورية مصر العربية ووزارة الموارد المائية والمصايد بجمهورية جامبيا فى مجال الموارد المائية والرى .

وتهدف مذكرة التفاهم لتحقيق التعاون بين الطرفين في مجالات ( الإدارة المتكاملة للموارد المائية - إدارة الأنهار المشتركة - إستخدام التكنولوجيا المتقدمة فى التحلية وحصاد مياه الأمطار - إستخدام أحدث النظم في مجال التنبؤ بالتغيرات المناخية ونظم الإنذار المبكر ومكافحة ظاهرة التصحر ) ، كما تتضمن مذكرة التفاهم ( تسهيل الزيارات الفنية عالية المستوى والتبادل الفني - تبادل المعلومات المرتبطة بمجالات التعاون - التنظيم المشترك لورش العمل حول الموضوعات ذات الإهتمام المشترك - تشجيع مؤسسات البحث العلمى لكلا الطرفين للقيام بمشروعات بحثية وتبادل المعلومات البحثية والخبراء والمتدربين من خلال دورات تدريبية لبناء القدرات ) .

Sameh Shoukry heads to Banjul to participate in the 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference. 🇬🇲🇪🇬

Mr. Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, is heading this evening, Friday, May 3rd, to Banjul, the capital of the Republic of the Gambia, to participate in the 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference, on behalf of Mr. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, which will be held on May 4th and 5th under the slogan "Enhancing Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development".

Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson and Director of the General Diplomacy Administration, stated that the Islamic Summit would address the most important political issues on the agenda of Islamic countries, in addition to economic issues related to accelerating the pace of achieving sustainable development goals, eradicating poverty, and confronting climate change. The summit will also discuss the importance of rejecting hate speech and Islamophobia and promoting dialogue and tolerance among civilizations, cultures, and peoples.

The official spokesperson revealed that the 15th session of the Islamic Summit is being held this year under the presidency of the Gambia, and it is expected to issue a final statement reflecting the organization's positions on the issues on the agenda, the "Banjul Declaration", in addition to a special resolution on Palestine.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson concluded his remarks by indicating that the agenda of the Minister of Foreign Affairs will include delivering a statement on behalf of the President, as well as holding several bilateral meetings with counterparts from the member states' foreign ministers, to discuss bilateral relations and consult on the most important current regional and international issues and challenges.

The Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt presented his credentials as a non-resident ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of The Gambia. 🇪🇬🇬🇲

Ambassador Khaled Aref presented his credentials as a non-resident ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to The Gambia to President Adama Barrow in the capital, Banjul. Following the presentation ceremony, President Barrow received the Egyptian ambassador in the presence of Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara. The ambassador conveyed the greetings of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to the President of The Gambia and discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.

President Barrow praised his country's relationship with Egypt and requested to convey his greetings to the Egyptian president. The ambassador emphasized the desire to enhance cooperation in various fields and the embassy's readiness to work towards developing bilateral relations. He highlighted areas of cooperation, particularly mentioning the programs of the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development to enhance Gambian capacities, as well as cooperation in education, health, agriculture, energy, and fisheries.

The Egyptian ambassador expressed hope for increasing trade volume, which could be doubled by encouraging private sector partnerships, as well as enhancing cooperation in construction, textiles, food industries, pharmaceuticals, electrical appliances, telecommunications technology, and infrastructure projects, where Egyptian companies have a good reputation across the African continent.

At the end of the meeting, the ambassador wished The Gambia success in organizing the 15th Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which it will host in Banjul on May 4-5, 2024.
