Go girl and welcome

International day of the Girl:

Meet Hawa cham a ninteen year old girl. She did her primary and secondary education in Anne Marie Javouhey Academy. Hawa did her high school education in Gambia Methodist Academy where she studied a pure science program.

During her time in high school, she engaged in various extra curricular activities both in school and out of school. In school she was part of the computer science club. Hawa attended and online free course on introduction to HTML and CSS which was created by the American corner and the HackathonGIrls. She later completed the course with a certificate which gave her the opportunity to join the Mozilla club of HackathonGIrls.

After joining the Mozilla Club of Hackathongirls Banjul, she became the president of the club. Hawa with her team members led other young girls in teaching them about Web literacy and guiding them to choose careers in STEM. Due to her dedication to her work she was chosen to represent her country in a global robotics competition called the FIRST Global challenge. She represented her country twice in the competition and was awarded a certificate in both.

Upon completion of high school, she got admission into The University of The Gambia, where she is now studying Computer Science. Hawa is now a member of HackathonGirls, Banjul which is purely for Women in STEM. She aspires to become a software developer and aims to see more females in the tech world. She wants more females to choose a career in STEM so that they can join hands and develop thier nation.

Today in partnership with American Corner, The Gambia, we succeeded in training 25 girls in basics of robotics. These girls came with no knowledge of what Robotics is and at the end they were very grateful and excited to have learnt a lot. At the end they built a minibot and understood a bit of block programming as well. We will continue to inspire girls to go into the STEM field. Let us know if you would want to get enrolled.

FYI: For girls 8 to 18 years.
