Growing Green Communities

Growing Green Communities We aim to plant a seed of sustainable growth and connectivity in communities around the world. We find simple sustainable solutions to environmental problems.

We provide the platform to unite like-minded people and guide them towards a green lifestyle. π™‚π™§π™€π™¬π™žπ™£π™œ π™œπ™§π™šπ™šπ™£ π™˜π™€π™’π™’π™ͺπ™£π™žπ™©π™žπ™šπ™¨ is an inspiring place where you can share, connect and learn from environmentally-conscious people. We do this by offering support and promoting environmental innovators to give them the platform to succeed. We organise eco-events and environmental workshops with the aim to conne

ct eco-minded individuals, communities, businesses, organisations, and governments and teach them sustainable practices to make a greener future for us all.

🌱🌍🌱🌍

Growing Green Communities was born in September 2020 where we hosted our first eco-event in Bangkok, Thailand! We connected environmentalists, entertained children with educational activities, promoted a range of organic and vegan vendors and had a range of exciting raffle prizes to offer. We planted positivity, green growth and inspired the next generation of eco-warriors. Over Β£1,500 was raised for local causes to continue making a difference in their local communities.

🌱🌍🌱🌍

We are now based in Sukuta, The Gambia with the same mission and will be hosting eco-events every month! On 22 May we launched the first in the country, where we connected 30 environmental NGO's and eco-friendly vendors all honoring the International Day for Biological Diversity. Thank you to everyone that made the day as successful it was, especially to our partners; Clean Earth Gambia and My Gambia. We managed to raise over 8,000GMD for The Women's Initiative to continue their important work empowering women through education, development and financial security. With every event we aim to grow the environmental network, so next up we are encouraging planting trees by launching 2 very exciting competitions: The small scale farmer and school planting competition!! On 26 June we will be announcing the winners and first prize wins 5,000GMD. Contact us for more information. We can't wait for Gambia's greenest event at MyFarm!!

🌱🌍🌱🌍

On top of the eco-events every month, we run beach cleans every fortnight at Bijilo Beach and will be launching our green schools campaign very soon! Visit our website for more information!

Every year, over 1 million marine animals, including sea turtles, die from ingesting or becoming entangled in plastic waste. You can help protect these endangered species by supporting initiatives that recycle plastic into turtle keyrings, like . Each purchase supports turtle conservation groups in The Gambia, turning trash into turtle-shaped treasure. 🌊🐒

β€œIt is in your hands to make a difference” ~ Nelson Mandela.

Just like these young environmentalists prove by collecting plastics found on the beach. Thanks to them can now wash and sort this plastic ready to be recycled. ♻️

Next time you’re at the beach, remember that even a handful of plastic being collected is better than none.

A special shout-out to the hardworking women of Fandema Waste Collectors, based in Brikama, The Gambia. These incredible women collect HDPE & PP plastic from the local community and sort them by plastic type. With the correct PPE, they then cut bulky items, using a machete, into smaller pieces. All of this is done using no special machinery, other than their hands. πŸ–οΈπŸ–πŸ½πŸ–πŸΏ

In this male-dominated sector, we need more spotlight to be put on women in waste management. Here’s to raising awareness through empowerment and combating gender bias!!

Have you heard about , an open source plastic recycling project that is composed of more than 40,000 people in over 400 work spaces around the world? This amazing project allows individuals to set up their own small-scale recycling company, by using machines and tools to grind, melt, and inject recycled plastic into new products... and all material and blueprints are available online for anyone to download for free. Pretty cool right?!

We would like to give a special shoutout to some of the inspiring Precious Plastic Projects we have connected with in our network. If you don't know them, make sure you visit their page and check out their journey:
