The Initiative for Diabetes and Hypertension Control (IDHC) has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to preventive healthcare, successfully conducting its annual May Day health screening for the third consecutive year in partnership with National Nutrition Agency .
Held at the May Day Sports Ground at the McCarthy Square in Banjul, this year’s outreach screened over a 100 workers, providing essential health checks focused on early detection and awareness of non-communicable diseases, particularly diabetes and hypertension.
The exercise included blood pressure monitoring, blood glucose testing, and general health assessments. These screenings are critical in identifying silent conditions that often go unnoticed until complications arise. By bringing these services directly to workers, IDHC continues to bridge the gap between healthcare services and the community.
The consistent organization of this initiative over the past three years highlights IDHC’s dedication to promoting a culture of routine health checks and preventive care. The turnout and participation reflect an encouraging shift toward increased health consciousness among workers.
Beyond screening, the initiative also served as an avenue for health education, empowering participants with knowledge on lifestyle modification, early intervention, and the importance of regular medical follow-up.
As IDHC builds on this growing impact, the success of this year’s May Day screening reinforces the importance of sustained community-based interventions in tackling the rising burden of diabetes and hypertension.

Yessss! It’s been three years , 1,095 days of impact, service, and unwavering commitment.🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳.
As the Initiative for Diabetes and Hypertension Control (IDHC) marks three years of service, we pause to reflect on a journey shaped by vision, dedication, and the communities we exist to serve. What began as a response to the growing burden of diabetes and hypertension has, over the past three years, evolved into a sustained and purposeful effort rooted in prevention, early detection, education, and advocacy.
Throughout this journey, IDHC has worked to take health beyond clinical settings and into communities, and everyday conversations. Through awareness campaigns, community screenings, and strategic partnerships, we have not only addressed disease, but empowered individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to take control of their health. Each step forward has reaffirmed the importance of accessible, inclusive, and community-centered approaches to non-communicable disease control.💙💕💞

Today, as we celebrate this milestone, we also recognize that the work continues. The challenges posed by diabetes and hypertension remain significant, demanding consistency, collaboration, and unwavering resolve. In reflecting on how far we have come, we renew our daily commitment to our mission,to prevent, detect, and control diabetes and hypertension, while promoting healthier, informed, and resilient communities.
With deep gratitude to our partners, volunteers, and the communities we serve, IDHC moves forward with renewed purpose, guided by impact, driven by service, and committed to building a healthier future for all.

Happy 3 years of services to our dearest volunteers, you are the heart of IDHC.🥳🥳💃💃💃Thank you for walking through the little steps into greatness. We look forward to another fruitful and successful 365days with you all.

WORLD DIABETES DAY 2025

As we commemorate World Diabetes Day 2025, we are reminded that diabetes is not just a diagnosis. It is a journey that millions walk through with courage, resilience, and unwavering strength. This year’s theme, “Diabetes and Well-Being,” calls us to reflect on the humanity behind the statistics, the faces behind the needles, and the lives behind every test strip.
To everyone living with diabetes, you are survivors. Your perseverance in managing daily routines, medications, check-ups, lifestyle changes, and emotional battles does not go unnoticed. Every monitored sugar level, every mindful meal, every moment you choose hope over fear is a testament to your bravery. You carry a strength many do not see, but it shines through in your commitment to live a full, meaningful life.
Today, we honour you, We honour your discipline.
We honour your courage and We honour your story.

Diabetes does not define who you are; it is simply one chapter in your life. With the right care, support, and knowledge, living well with diabetes is not just possible, it is achievable.

At the Initiative for Diabetes and Hypertension Control (IDHC), we remain committed to empowering individuals, families, and communities with screening services, education, counselling, and continuous support aimed at improving overall well-being.
Let this day remind us all that wellness is a shared responsibility. Supporting a person living with diabetes means offering compassion, understanding, and encouragement. Together, we can build a healthier nation where no one faces diabetes alone.
As we move forward, may hope guide us, may knowledge strengthen us, and may wellness inspire us.
