It is really disheartening the direction the Council is taking.
I call on the Ministry to take full responsibility, since they are the ones directly responsible for the staff.
I have called the Ministry of Local Government countless times to regularize its staff at the Council, but to no avail.
As Mayor of our city, I have done everything in my power to bring resources and capacity to Banjul.
I mobilized street lights to increase security and visibility in our city, yet just to release funds for their installation has become impossible.
Likewise the new waste management trucks that are on the premises only to be informed that it lacks oil to kickstart operations.
I have learnt my lessons and until things are fixed, I have decided to take a back seat and watch how things unfold.
The most affected will always be the dedicated people of our proud city - due to the actions or inaction of a few people.
What must the Mayor do now?
You use politics thinking you are frustrating the Mayor, only to realize that you were also voted in by Banjulians.
I am tired of running behind the CEO who evidently has no authority over certain staff of the Council.
If the ministry’s responsibility is to handle the administration of our City Council, then they must take full responsibility for ensuring that our City Council operates efficiently and effectively.
Enough is enough!
Lands are important, but governance is key.
When the City of Banjul cries, we will not sugarcoat the truth that it is not for lack of trying by the political leaders of the Council, but the ministry’s reluctance or inability to manage its staff.
It’s a sad time to be a Banjulian.
