Earlier this afternoon, officials from Speak out Africa Initiative Gambia office paid a courtesy call on the Chairman of Mansakonko Area Council Mr. Landing B. Sanneh at his office.

The project associates and head of programmes at Speak out Africa Initiative Gambia office, disclosed their intention to implement Green to Growth- Gambia Project.

The objective of the project is to promote the use of organic manure and supporting Local Civil Society Organizations to advocate and promote the use of organic manure by the farmers.

The project will be implemented in the eight Local Government Administrative Areas and the main office of the project will be established in Jarra Soma LRR. The duration of the project is thirty (30) months and in each of the Regions, there will be an establish field office to work with youth and women farmers.

The Chairman of the Council Mr. Landing B.Sanneh expressed delight for receiving officials of Speak out Africa initiative Gambia and thanked them for the timely visit. He disclosed that the Council has an open door policy and they should feel free whenever they want to knock the doors of the Council. He revealed that Council is the entry point of any development projects and he reaffirmed Council’s commitment to support the implementation of the project.

Role Overview:
The Project Communication Officer will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the internal and external communications of the "Green-2-Growth Gambia" project. The role will involve managing the project's public relations, developing communication strategies, and ensuring the dissemination of key information to stakeholders, partners, the public, and the media. The Communication Officer will play a critical role in promoting transparency, raising awareness, and enhancing visibility for the project’s objectives, particularly around the advocacy for organic fertilizer usage and the transformation of the food system in The Gambia.
Key Responsibilities:
Communication Strategy and Management:
• Develop and Implement Communication Plans: Design and implement a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with the goals of the Green-2-Growth Gambia project, ensuring key messages reach all stakeholders.
• Content Creation: Develop high-quality communication materials such as press releases, newsletters, brochures, reports, and social media content, highlighting the project’s achievements and activities.
• Media Relations: Establish and maintain relationships with local and international media outlets to enhance media coverage of project events, milestones, and success stories.
• Branding and Messaging: Ensure that all communication materials adhere to SOAI’s branding guidelines and that consistent messaging is maintained throughout the project.
Information Dissemination and Public Engagement:
• Project Visibility: Oversee the visibility and outreach efforts of the project, ensuring that the target audience is well-informed about project goals, progress, and outcomes through various channels (print, electronic, social media, and events).
• Community Engagement: Facilitate the development of community outreach materials that effectively communicate the importance of organic farming, sustainable practices, and the use of organic fertilizers, particularly targeting farmers, women, and youth in rural communities.
• Digital Communications: Manage and maintain the project's social media platforms, website, and other digital channels to keep stakeholders updated on project progress.
• Public Awareness Campaigns: Plan and coordinate public campaigns, such as town hall meetings, organic fertilizer expos, and student debates, ensuring that they receive appropriate publicity.
Technical and Reporting Functions:
• Monitoring Communication Impact: Track and evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies and campaigns, providing insights on engagement levels and adjusting tactics as necessary.
• Reporting: Prepare periodic communication reports that document media coverage, public outreach, and stakeholder engagement, and contribute to donor reports and project updates.
• Media Monitoring: Monitor media coverage of the project, organic farming, and related issues, and advise the project team on how to respond to media trends.
• Crisis Communication: Manage project-related crises by developing appropriate messaging and strategies to handle any negative publicity or misunderstandings.
Stakeholder Engagement:
• Collaboration with Partners: Work closely with project partners, stakeholders, CSOs, and community leaders to ensure the consistent flow of information and alignment of communication efforts.
• Advocacy Support: Assist in the development of advocacy materials and communication tools that support policy reforms for the production and use of organic fertilizers and the promotion of sustainable agriculture in The Gambia.
• Capacity Building: Organize communication training for project team members and key stakeholders to ensure that they are equipped to engage effectively with the media and public.
Administrative and Managerial Responsibilities:
• Budget Management: Oversee the communication budget, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and in compliance with project guidelines.
• Logistical Support: Coordinate the logistics for communication-related events, such as press conferences, public campaigns, workshops, and media visits.
• Documentation and Archiving: Ensure that all communication-related documents, media coverage, and project publications are archived properly for future reference and reporting.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
• Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in communications, public relations, or media, preferably within the NGO, agricultural, or environmental sectors.
• Demonstrated experience in managing communication strategies for development projects, particularly in rural or agricultural settings.
• Proven ability to work with media, manage digital platforms, and develop content for different audiences.
• Experience in using communication tools for advocacy and policy change is desirable.
• Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to produce clear, concise, and engaging content.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with fluency in English and knowledge of local languages being an advantage.
• Proficiency in social media management, website maintenance, and the use of digital tools for communication.

*Role Overview:*

The Project Associate will be responsible for the coordination, management, and implementation of the "Green-2-Growth Gambia" project, focusing on the socio-ecological transformation of the food system through organic fertilizer use and diversified food consumption. The project associate will support local civil society organizations (CSOs) and other key stakeholders in promoting organic agriculture, recycling waste into organic fertilizers, and policy advocacy in line with sustainable agricultural practices. The role requires a combination of project management skills, stakeholder engagement, technical expertise in organic agriculture, and an ability to lead advocacy efforts.

*Key Responsibilities:*

Project Coordination and Implementation:
• Project Ex*****on: Lead the day-to-day ex*****on of the "Green-2-Growth Gambia" project, ensuring alignment with the project objectives and timelines.
• Work Plan Development: Assist in developing and monitoring detailed work plans, ensuring that milestones and deliverables are met.
• Project Activities Coordination: Coordinate training workshops, community town halls, focus groups, and technical sessions on organic fertilizer and waste recycling.
• Participant Selection: Oversee the identification and selection of 700 smallholder farmers, ensuring fair representation across regions.
• Field Coordination: Supervise field activities across the seven regions, working closely with CSOs, smallholder farmers, and agricultural cooperatives.
• Expo and Events Management: Support in organizing the Organic Restaurants’ Expo (ORE), decentralized unity walk, and annual awards for organic fertilizer.
• Sub-Granting Management: Support the design and implementation of a sub-granting scheme for local CSOs engaged in organic fertilizer advocacy.

*Stakeholder Management:*

• Advocacy and Policy Engagement: Facilitate dialogue with public and private fertilizer producers, agricultural SMEs, and government representatives to drive policy reforms in support of organic agriculture.
• CSO Capacity Building: Lead capacity-building efforts for 21 local CSOs and CBOs, equipping them to advocate for organic farming and sustainability.
• Partnership Building: Establish relationships with tertiary institutions, farmers’ cooperatives, and stakeholders involved in the organic fertilizer supply chain.
• Network Facilitation: Develop and coordinate a nationwide network of women and youth farmers, facilitating their engagement in policy discussions and advocacy efforts.
Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E):
• Baseline Surveys: Coordinate the farmers' opinion pool on organic fertilizer usage, ensuring data is collected from 200 marginalized women and youth participants.
• Project Reporting: Provide regular updates and progress reports to the Project Manager, including key insights from M&E activities.
• Data Management: Maintain accurate records of project activities, participant attendance, and other essential data to inform project outcomes and impact assessments.
Technical and Administrative Support:
• Documentation: Oversee the production of educational materials (audio-visual kits, role play scripts simulating parliamentary processes, advocacy materials) to support awareness and engagement.
• Budget Management: Assist in managing project budgets, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation for workshops, advocacy events, and public campaigns.
• Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with all EU and national regulations concerning organic farming, fertilizer production, and environmental sustainability.
• Team Leadership: Support the Project Manager in overseeing project staff and consultants, ensuring effective collaboration across all project components.

*Qualifications and Experience:*

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Project Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
• At least 1 year of relevant experience in managing agricultural or environmental projects, with a focus on organic farming or sustainable development.
• Proven experience in working with CSOs, government bodies, and private sector stakeholders, especially in advocacy and policy engagement.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects in multi-stakeholder environments, particularly at the local government level.
• Strong knowledge of the socio-ecological transformation of food systems, with an understanding of organic fertilizers and sustainable agricultural practices.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience in project budgeting, reporting, and compliance with donor requirements (e.g., EU).
