𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧

From 6th to 8th May 2026, the Executive Director of Raise the Young Foundation participated in the Regional Training on Early Warning and Civic Space Advocacy held in Porto-Novo, Benin.

The event brought together civil society actors, journalists, and regional institutions from over 25 West African countries. Organized by Women Leaders Network for Development - RFLD, CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation, and EUSEE project partners, the Training aimed to strengthen collaboration, enhance early warning responses, and promote a coordinated regional approach to civic space advocacy.

The Executive Director’s participation underscored Raise the Young Foundation’s commitment to advancing civic engagement and regional cooperation across West Africa.

Today marked the official opening of the 87th Ordinary Public Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights in Banjul, with 10 days of critical discussions on human rights, governance, peace, and accountability across Africa.

This session also begins a commemorative period celebrating:

- 45 years since the adoption of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights
- 40 years since its entry into force
- The upcoming 40th anniversary of the African Commission in 2027

Key highlights included calls for:

- Renewed commitment to the original vision of the Charter
- Strong institutions that protect dignity, rights, and justice
- Meaningful inclusion of young people in shaping solutions

Yesterday, we proudly presented the Gambian Women Champions 2026 Award to Fatou Touray, CEO and Founder of Kerr Fatou Media, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to media excellence, gender equality, women’s empowerment, and advocacy for social change in The Gambia.

The award was presented by Yankuba Keita, Executive Director of Raise The Young Foundation, on behalf of the organization as part of our International Women’s Day celebration.

Raise The Young Foundation Engages in National and Regional Efforts to Advance the Rights of Women and Girls.

The Foundation was represented by Jaila Bah, who joined the SWEDD+ First Ladies’ Forum on Zero Tolerance for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and the National Consultation on the Legal Compendium on the protection of adolescent girls and young women.

The engagements strengthened both regional commitment and national legal efforts to end GBV and improve access to justice.

Raise The Young Foundation remains committed to advancing a safer and more equitable future for every Gambian girl.
