In The Gambia, r**e in the context of s*x is often stigmatized and underreported due to societal attitudes and lack of awareness. Many cases are met with denial or blame-shifting, rather than support for survivors.

Some key issues contributing to this include:
- Cultural and social norms around gender and s*xuality
- Lack of education on consent and rights
- Inadequate support services for survivors
- Gaps in law enforcement and justice

Justice is the foundation of true democracy. It's about reflecting the will and needs of the people, shaping governance structures on principles of equality and fairness. Any programme or policy lacking these elements isn't truly democratic. The truth can be tough, but it's essential for constructive democracy. A democracy that distorts truth isn't worthy of the name. Today, we see instances where truth is compromised for personal gain, at the expense of those who deserve better.

Gender relations in social justice aim to establish equity in opportunities, ensuring equal chances without bias or favoritism. Social justice promotes harmony, peace, and unity by eliminating exploitation and corruption. It empowers individuals to express themselves, destroying fear and insecurity.

In The Gambia, corruption is a significant challenge, with institutions meant to combat it often being corrupt themselves. This imbalance hinders the fight against corruption and undermines the justice system

The Gambia's anti-corruption efforts are ongoing, with initiatives like the Public Finance Management Bill and the establishment of an independent SOE Commission. However, more work is needed to strengthen institutions and ensure accountability

Jummah Mubarak to everyone, especially those fighting against injustices!

As we step into 2026, we're reflecting on our achievements and recommitting to our mission for social justice, equality, and equity. The Gambia, like many Sub-Saharan countries, faces significant challenges due to social injustices, leading to poverty and underdevelopment. We're intensifying our efforts to combat these injustices and promote equality and equity ยน.

Our work focuses on advocacy, capacity building, and socio-economic empowerment. We've been involved in various initiatives, including training on women's rights and policies, leadership and management, business management and entrepreneurship, and livelihood skills training.

Some of our key areas of focus include:
- Advocacy on Women's Rights and Policies: Promoting gender equality and challenging discriminatory laws and practices.
- Leadership and Management Training: Empowering women to take on leadership roles and make informed decisions.
- Economic Empowerment: Supporting women in entrepreneurship and provide access to financial services.
- Gender-Based Violence Prevention: Working to prevent and respond to gender-based violence, including supporting survivors and advocating for policy change.

We're committed to continuing this important work and making a difference in The Gambia and beyond.
