On this International Women's Day, we celebrate the veterans and pioneers of women in the media, we pause to honor the remarkable women whose voices paved the way for generations to follow.

Under the spirit of this yearโ€™s reflection โ€œGive to Growโ€ we recognize the women who gave their knowledge, their time, and their courage to mentor, coach, and inspire young women journalists across The Gambia.

Today, we proudly celebrate two iconic pioneers of broadcasting: Aji Lala Haydara and Amie Joof-Cole.

Their dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to journalism have not only shaped the media landscape but have also empowered countless women to find their voices, tell their stories, and lead with confidence.

Your legacy is not just in the work you have done, but in the women you have uplifted along the way.

Today, we honor you.
Today, we thank you.
And today, we celebrate the path you created for the women of today and tomorrow.

Happy International Womenโ€™s Day. ๐Ÿ’œ

The Women Journalists Association of The Gambia (WoJAG) in collaboration with Gambia Press Union(GPU) has kick started a three month project to protect and promote the Safety and Security of Women Journalists in The Gambia.

This project seeks to train thirty-three (33) women journalists on physical and online safety and Media Owners and Managers on Preventing Sexual Exploitation and Abuse. The project will be wrapped with a Multi stakeholder Symposium on the Safety of Female Journalists.

On Tuesday, during the official opening of a four-day training on physical & online safety and security, Ms. Annette Camara, the President of WoJAG said, โ€œour goal at WoJAG is simple but urgent, and that is to empower women journalists to work safely, confidently, and independently, both online and offline,โ€

โ€œSafety is not a privilege; it is a professional right. When women feel secure in their work, they are better positioned to tell the stories that matter stories that shape our democracy, amplify marginalized voices, and hold power to accountโ€ she added.

This project is supported by National Commission for UNESCO (NATCOM) under the UNESCO Participatory Programme.
