I am honored to have served as a facilitator and moderator in a four-day step-down training on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) in Jarra West District.

This impactful program, targeting 400 participants under the Jarra West District Youth Committee, is funded by the People of Japan through UNDP and implemented in collaboration with the National Youth Council under the Ministry of Youth and Sports of The Gambia.

The training focused on promoting youth and women inclusion in peacebuilding and strengthening community security using the YPS and WPS frameworks guided by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250, which The Gambia has adapted through its National Action Plan.

We engaged communities in Soma and Pakalinding, as well as students from Tahir Senior Secondary School and Misera Upper & Senior Secondary School. These engagements are vital in empowering young people and women to actively contribute to peace, stability, and development in our communities.

Proud to be part of a movement that is shaping a more inclusive and peaceful future.

Looking back, I’m grateful for the opportunity I had to serve as a facilitator in a training session for 30 cross-border traders. It was a meaningful experience that allowed me to engage with hardworking traders who travel across borders every day to support their families and sustain their businesses.

The session created a space for learning, sharing experiences, and discussing practical ways to navigate the challenges of cross-border trade. What stood out the most was the resilience, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit of the participants.

That experience reminded me how powerful knowledge sharing and capacity building can be. When traders have access to the right information and tools, they are better equipped to grow their businesses and contribute to stronger local and regional economies.

I remain grateful for the opportunity to have contributed in a small way and for the inspiring conversations and lessons shared during that training.
