LCOY The Gambia

LCOY The Gambia The conference is implemented by GEA. Local Conference of Youth on Climate Change (LCOY) is an event under YOUNGO, the official youth constituency of UNFCCC.

LCOY The Gambia is not an organization – it’s a project of YOUNGO that seeks to create a crucial space for Gambian youth to influence national & global climate policies to address the global climate crisis. Like other countries, LCOY The Gambia has been approved by the YOUNGO LCOY Working Group to create a crucial space for youth climate action and contribution to international conferences like th

e COYs and COPs. The LCOY is a national version of Conference of Youth on Climate Change (COY), which is held immediately before the Conference of Parties (COP). During the LCOY event in The Gambia, young people will develop a national youth statement that will be incorporated into the Global Youth Statement at COY in Sharm El Sheikh. This global statement will also be presented at COP27 as the global youth policy document outlining the demands of young people in the fight against climate change.

Yesterday, our core team had the opportunity to meet with our key partners, Ministry of Environment-MECCNAR, WACA Gambia Project, and the RICAR Project, in a meaningful step toward deepening collaboration for youth-led climate action.

Led by Khaddijatou Ceesay, the team presented certificates and the National Youth Statements to the partners, while also engaging in important discussions on how to strengthen partnerships and secure continued support for LCOY’s mission.

The team also introduced the new LCOY leadership, marking a fresh chapter of commitment, energy, and purpose.

We were equally honored to be received by the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Project Coordinator and Senior officials at the Ministry of Environment, a moment that reflects the growing recognition of youth voices in climate action and environmental leadership.

LCOY Gambia remains committed to building strong partnerships, amplifying youth perspectives, and advancing practical climate solutions for our communities and our future.
