JAYS MOURNS THE ALKALO (VILLAGE CHIEF) OF JUFFUREH

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the communities of Juffureh and Albreda mourn the passing of their beloved Alkalo, Aja Tako Taal.

A true matriarch and an immense pillar of the community, she stood as the only female village leader in the country — a testament to her extraordinary character and leadership.

Her passing last night is a monumental loss not only to Juffureh and Albreda but to the entire nation. She will be laid to rest in Juffureh today at 2:00 pm local time. May Allah SWT grant her a lofty abode in Jannah and provide strength to those she leaves behind.

The JAYS Board held their end of year meeting last Sunday, where they have discussed several critical issues and strategic matters relating to the budget for the coming year, and establishing a new JAYS office headed by an appointed CEO.

In his remarks, the Board's chairman Mr Duwa Jatta thanked the members for their time and dedication and he pointed that the issues discussed and the strategic decisions they made at this meeting, will postion JAYS on very strong footings for the years to come.

As we come to end of the rainy season and the start of a new torist season, JAYS led volunteers from the community of Juffureh and Albreda on a clean-up exercise around some of the tourism sites including the museum complex in Juffureh, which is also home to the JAYS office.

The exercise was organised to promote hygiene, social cohesion, community ownership and above all safety and environmental sustainability.
