The JAYS community of Juffureh and Albreda deeply mourns the passing of Aja Mariama Fofana, affectionately known to many as Wurindi.
Aja Mariama was the daughter of the late Binta Kinteh, whose family ancestry is linked to the renowned Kunta Kinteh. She passed away on Wednesday evening and was laid to rest on Thursday in her home village of Juffureh.
Following the passing of her mother, Binta Kinteh, in the early 2000s, Aja Mariama inherited the family's rich tourism heritage and became a cherished custodian of its legacy. Over the years, she welcomed and hosted thousands of visitors from across the world at their family home in Juffureh, sharing the history and cultural heritage of her family and community with warmth and dedication. Her untimely passing is a great loss to her family, the communities of Juffureh and Albreda, and indeed to The Gambia as a whole.
We pray that Allah (SWT) grants her His infinite mercy, forgives her shortcomings, and blesses her with the highest abode in Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen.
