The Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources, Hon. Rohey John Manjang, today toured the Kotu Stream, the intervention area under the WACA Project.

Along the Stream, the Hon. Minister met and interacted with community members and Ward Councilors, who expressed optimism about the project. They also expressed satisfaction with the progress registered thus far, particularly the project’s annual short-term interventions to clear the Stream and adjoining drains ahead of the rainy season.

The Hon. Minister assured the communities of Government’s strong commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the project and addressing the severe flood risks affecting communities along the Kotu Stream.

The WACA Project Coordinator, Dr. Muhammad Lamin Sanyang informed communities that the project’s feasibility study and engineering designs have been completed, and that works will begin once the ESIA and RAP studies are finalized.

The Minister was accompanied by her Deputy Permanent Secretary (Technical), CPCU Director, and other technical staff.

Kotu Stream designs are out.

We're pleased to announce that the detailed engineering designs for the Kotu Stream works have been presented to community members, implementing partners, and other key stakeholders.

The designs integrate civil works and nature-based solutions to reprofile the Kotu Stream channel, create water detention ponds and drainage systems to reduce flood risks, construct crossings (culverts and bridges etc.) to improve accessibility, and develop parks to enhance recreation, support biodiversity, and serve as flood buffers.

Next steps:
- Finalise the ESIA and RAP studies
- Procure and engage contractors
- Commence civil works
