Concerns have been raised regarding the recent implementation of a mandated pension scheme by the Gambia Teachers' Union Credit Cooperative Union (GTUCCU). We have received numerous communications from teachers expressing apprehension about the compulsory nature of this initiative and its potential impact on their financial well-being.
While we acknowledge the importance of long-term financial security, we respectfully request that the GTUCCU reconsider the current approach and engage in a comprehensive dialogue with teachers to ensure transparency and mutual agreement regarding any deductions from their salaries.
We remain committed to fostering a collaborative relationship with the GTU and its affiliates, with the shared goal of upholding the professional dignity and financial stability of Gambian educators. We urge the GTUCCU to prioritize open communication and collaborative decision-making in matters that directly affect the livelihoods of its members. We trust that a mutually acceptable resolution will be reached through constructive dialogue.
