From Normative Progress to Implementation Impact

ASFIT is pleased to be participating in the Global Strategic Dialogue on Youth, Peace and Security: From Normative Progress to Implementation Impact, taking place from 28–30 July 2026 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The dialogue brings together youth leaders, practitioners, policymakers, and partners from around the world to reflect on how the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agenda can move beyond commitments to measurable impact in communities.

So far, discussions have explored how different countries have adapted and contextualized the YPS agenda within their unique national and local realities, demonstrating that while contexts differ, the vision of meaningful youth participation remains universal.

On Day Two, we had the opportunity to contribute to a panel discussion on YPS Coalitions and Movement Building, where we shared the experience of the Ghana Civil Society Coalition on Youth, Peace and Security. We highlighted the importance of bringing together diverse organizations and stakeholders around a shared purpose, while ensuring that bureaucracy does not hinder collective action. We also emphasized that successful coalitions are built on trust, transparency, accountability, and a shared vision.

Some of our key takeaways from the dialogue include:

1️⃣ The Youth, Peace and Security agenda goes beyond youth participation. It contributes to improved well-being, stronger social cohesion, greater community resilience, enhanced legitimacy, and more inclusive governance.

2️⃣ Effective implementation of the YPS agenda depends on meaningful intergenerational collaboration, where young people and decision-makers work together as partners.

3️⃣ While every context is unique, continuous peer learning and knowledge exchange among actors remain essential for strengthening policy and practice across countries.

We look forward to bringing these lessons home as we continue supporting Ghana’s efforts to localize and implement the Youth, Peace and Security agenda.

Strengthening Our Capacity to Sustain Our Mission

We are pleased to share that ASFIT has been selected to join Cohort IV of the Civic Space Resource Hub (CSR-Hub) under the Resource Mobilisation and Financial Resilience pillar, an initiative of the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) .

As part of this opportunity, our Executive Director, Issah Tuaha , participated in a residential training in Tamale, Northern Region, from 20–23 July 2026, alongside other civil society leaders from across Northern Ghana.

The training provided practical insights into building sustainable and resilient organizations through sessions on leadership and social capital, corporate fundraising, crowdfunding, individual giving, proposal development, donor engagement, and financial resilience.

Beyond technical knowledge, the experience reaffirmed a simple but powerful truth: successful fundraising begins with trust. Organizations that communicate their impact clearly, build authentic relationships, and demonstrate accountability are better positioned to mobilize the resources needed to sustain their mission.

For ASFIT, these lessons come at an important time. As we continue expanding our work in youth leadership, interfaith dialogue, conflict prevention, and social cohesion across the North East Region of Ghana, strengthening our resource mobilization capacity will enable us to diversify our funding sources, build long-term financial resilience, and increase our impact in the communities we serve.

The training concluded with the certification of all participants, recognizing our successful completion of the programme and reinforcing ASFIT’s commitment to continuous organizational learning and excellence.

We extend our sincere appreciation to WACSI, the facilitators, and fellow cohort members for creating such a rich learning environment. We look forward to translating these insights into action as we continue working with partners to build peaceful, inclusive, and resilient communities.

🕊️ Preventing Conflict, Promoting Lasting Peace! 🕊️

On May 18, 2026, following an intensive training program at The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Accra Ghana , the African Students For Interfaith Tolerance (ASFIT) team successfully conducted a comprehensive Step-Down Training on Conflict Prevention at our Walewale office.

This training was facilitated by our Peace Education Officer Kashifatu Abubakari Moari where our dedicated staff and volunteers deepened their expertise in conflict mapping, dialogue facilitation, and early warning systems in order to establish a grassroots conflict prevention task force, train local youth groups, and integrate practical peacebuilding strategies into ASFIT’s Peace Clubs and Youth Interreligious Parliament across the North East Region.

Empowering Youth to lead the way in peacebuilding! ✨

On July 18, 2026, African Students for Interfaith Tolerance (ASFIT) successfully hosted the first cohort of our **Youth4Peace Bootcamp** in Pwalugu, Upper East Region.

We brought together 15 dynamic youth leaders from four key border communities Arigu, Pwalugu, Karimenga, and Gbeo for an intensive day of practical learning and collaboration.

Together, we explored:

Beyond the training, these young leaders built strong cross-community connections, established an early-warning communication pathway, and created their own action plans to foster social cohesion back home. As one participant from Gbeo beautifully put it, "𝑾𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒔𝒆𝒆 𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒔 𝒐𝒏𝒆, 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒍𝒔."

All 15 participants are now certified and preparing for formal induction into the ASFIT Peace Ambassadors Network. This cohort is just the beginning our goal is to train 200 youth peacebuilders across the five northern regions to build lasting resilience.

A big thank you to our facilitator, Elijah Adam, the ASFIT team, and every participant who showed up ready to make a difference.

Together, we are shifting from passive observers to active drivers of peace! 🤝

As the FIFA Club World Cup draws to a close, it reminds us of football's unique ability to unite people across cultures, languages, and borders. While the world celebrates champions on the pitch, we are proud to celebrate another kind of victory: the young Most Valuable Peacemakers (MVPs) who are using football to build trust, strengthen communities, and inspire lasting peace.

In 2025, we partnered with Football for Peace and other partners to deliver the first Football for Peace Ghana Youth Programme. After 12 transformative weeks, the programme culminated in a memorable graduation ceremony in Walewale, where young people from five communities in Ghana's North East Region celebrated not only their achievements but also the friendships, leadership skills, and shared commitment to peaceful coexistence they developed along the way.

This was more than a football programme; it was a platform for youth empowerment, social cohesion, and community resilience. Because while football can produce world champions, it can also nurture peace champions.

The African Students For Interfaith Tolerance honoured a National Advocacy Event on Ethical Leadership and Accountability in Organisations and Soviety on 9th July, 2026 at GNAT Hall, Adabraka, Accra, Ghana, under the theme: Streghtheing Ethical Leadership for National Transformation.

Representing ASFIT at this pivotal event was our dedicated Project Officer, Mahami Ishawu , who engaged with fellow leaders and advocates passionate about driving systemic change.

🌍 We are pleased to be participating in the Technical-Level Consultation Ahead of the 5th Continental Dialogue on Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) and Women, Peace and Security (WPS).

Over the next three days (14–16 July 2026), policymakers, practitioners, and youth leaders from across Africa are convening in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and virtually to explore how to better institutionalize the role of young people and women in peace, security, and policy reform.

Held under the theme, “Advancing Inclusive Governance: Institutionalizing the Role of Youth and Women in Peace, Security and Policy Reform in Africa,” the consultation provides an important platform to examine existing policy frameworks, identify implementation gaps, and strengthen pathways for the meaningful participation of young people and women in peacebuilding, governance, and decision-making.

As Ghana continues to advance the localization of the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda, including the development of its first National Action Plan on YPS, we look forward to contributing our experiences, learning from colleagues across the continent, and helping shape recommendations ahead of the 5th Continental Dialogue in Bujumbura this August.

We remain committed to ensuring that young people are not only recognized as partners for peace but are meaningfully included in shaping Africa’s peace, security, and governance architecture.

✨ Day 7 & Final Day: Greetings of peace from the North East regional capital! 😊🌍

On Sunday, June 28th, we officially wrapped up the final day of our livelihood skills training in Nalerigu. The focus was on concluding the Marketing Skills Training that started on Saturday, and it ended on a massive high note!

Despite differences in educational backgrounds and language barriers, all 25 participants stepped up and successfully pitched their individual soap-making business ideas. Their presentations beautifully demonstrated their commitment and readiness to launch their own businesses!

When asked why they chose specific products, their market insights were incredible:

"In my community, bar soap is in high demand but no one produces it locally. People have to buy in bulk from towns like Walewale and Nalerigu to sell. This is my opportunity to produce affordable bar soap right at home!"

Another participant shared:

"Many households use 'Azuma Blows' soap in my village, but businesswomen have to travel all the way to Techiman to buy it. I chose this product so my people won't have to travel long distances for quality, affordable soap."

To ensure their long-term success, every participant was given a step-by-step training manual to guide them as they start production on their own.

We are incredibly proud of these 25 newly empowered entrepreneurs! A huge thank you to our partners, Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund and CDD-Ghana - Ghana Center for Democratic Development , for making the "Bridging the Gap" project a resounding success.
