Last week our team took part in this year’s Ghana Health Service HealthPromotionDivision at Korle Bu, Accra! Under the theme “Strengthening Free in Ghana through Evidence-Based SBC,” we took the stage during the Disability Inclusion and Equity session to present “Digital Health for Equity: Mother-Tongue SBC for Fulbe & Communities in Northern Ghana.” Our presentation was based on the CSSM-funded "Improving Access to and with SBC Campaign," and we are deeply grateful to the Coastal States Stability Mechanism (CSSM) and IOM - UN Migration for collaborating with us on this transformative project.
During this project, we deployed 164 loaded with audio health messages in local languages (Fulfulde, Dagaare, Sissali, Grune) across 30 CHPS zones in Lambussie, Sissala West, and Bongo districts of Ghana, enabling 1,502 Fulbe community members to access primary health information! Additionally, 825 Fulbe individuals across the three districts sought medical services at local health facilities.
Key Takeaways from the Summit
1. Physical healthcare infrastructure must be paired with active health promotion and SBC to build community health literacy and encourage timely health-seeking behavior.
2. There is a dire need for sustainable domestic funding and dedicated budgetary allocations – GHS.
3. Real-time community feedback and behavioral intelligence tools (e.g., BIIM) are essential for managing health misinformation during emergency responses and routine health drives.
4. Active, continuous partnerships among government agencies, research institutions, CSOs, and development partners are necessary to bridge the gap between national health policy commitments and real community outcomes.
We extend our sincere appreciation to GHS, and everyone who engaged with us during the summit. We look forward to collaborating with new partners to scale inclusive, digital health solutions across Ghana! Reach out to us to explore how Amplio Talking Books can support your health promotion goals.
