🌍 Happy International Women's Day! 🌸

Today, we celebrate the incredible strength, resilience, and achievements of women around the world. This year's theme, "Give to Gain," reminds us that by providing equal opportunities for women, we not only uplift individuals but also enrich our communities and societies as a whole.

Why "Give to Gain"?

- Empowerment: When we invest in women's education, careers, and health, we empower them to reach their full potential.
- Economic Growth: Gender equality in the workplace leads to increased productivity and economic development. When women thrive, economies flourish!
- Diverse Perspectives: Women bring unique insights and creativity, driving innovation and progress in all fields.

Let's Take Action!

- Support Women-Owned Businesses: Choose to buy from women entrepreneurs in your community.
- Mentor and Uplift: Share your knowledge and experiences to help other women succeed.
- Advocate for Equality: Stand up for policies that promote gender equality in all areas of life.

Together, let’s create a future where every woman has the opportunity to shine. Remember, when we give women the chances they deserve, we all gain a brighter, more equitable world.

Engagement with Stakeholders: She Leads Social Movement

The She Leads Social Movement - UWR members actively engaged with community leaders and women's groups in the Sagu and Nyagli communities to advocate for the inclusion of girls and young women (GYW) in decision-making processes and community initiatives.

Highlights from the Dialogue

Evidence-Based Advocacy:
. Movement members presented findings from a scorecard, the Affirmative Action Bill, and research on women's inclusion in leadership within the Upper West Region.
. They emphasized the importance of female representation in decision-making roles and identified barriers hindering women's participation.

Commitment to Inclusion:
The Acting Project Coordinator reminded leaders of a commitment form they signed in 2021, pledging to support and include GYW in community initiatives. This served as a powerful reminder to solicit their continued support in fulfilling this commitment.

Lobbying for Female Inclusion:
Using the evidence gathered, movement members lobbied leaders to create more opportunities for women's involvement in decision-making.

Sharing Challenges:
Women at the meeting voiced their challenges, particularly the lack of inclusion in decision-making processes, as well as fears associated with participating in these discussions.

Leaders' Response:
Community leaders appreciated the engagement and encouraged women to overcome their fears and actively participate in community meetings, ensuring their voices are heard. They recognized the significance of women's inclusion through the She Leads project and expressed their commitment to involving women in decision-making processes.

from Nyagli community Support for Education: Leaders pledged to assist brilliant but needy girls who excel in their exams with funds from their Education Fund to further their education.
They also committed to mobilizing girls in the community and organizing mentorship programs for them after school vacations.

Understanding the importance of female leadership and inclusion in decision-making is crucial for community development. Continuous engagement with community leaders is essential to prioritize the development of girls and young women, empowering them to become nation builders. Let us persist in advocating for GYW and fostering an inclusive environment where their contributions are valued and recognized.

3. Sanitary Pad Banks: Setting up seven (7) sanitary pad banks in the Wa Municipality to address menstrual hygiene needs.

4. Challenging gender roles: Encouraging parents and caregivers to dismantle gender stereotypes by sharing household responsibilities equally among boys and girls.

5. Community engagements: Securing commitments from community members and leaders to provide GYW with equitable opportunities in local initiatives.

6. Media representation: Gaining a slot on Tunsung Radio to host a program (Ladies Meetup) dedicated to promoting female leadership, which includes free airtime.

7. Establishment of Girls Clubs: Creating safe spaces for girls to develop leadership skills and foster community support.

9. Increased acceptance of Female Inclusion: There has been a notable shift among men in the project communities, with many acknowledging the importance of including women in decision-making processes. This acceptance reflects a positive change in attitudes towards gender equality and collaboration in leadership roles.
