“What I saw today is going to stay with me for a long time. I’m a little bit shocked, but that is the purpose of the visit.”
~Australian High Commissioner to Ghana
GreenAd had the honour of welcoming the Australian High Commissioner, Berenice Owen-Jones to our City Mining Centre (CMC) at Agbogbloshie, an e-waste collection and dismantling facility established to promote safe recycling practices and protect the environment.
Her visit formed part of the Australian Aid collaboration with Pure Earth under the Coalition Against Lead Pollution (CLAP) Project. Accompanied by Rev. Dr. Esmond Wisdom Quansah, Africa Regional Programs Director for Pure Earth, the Commissioner witnessed first-hand the impact of years of informal recycling on the community and the transformative work being done to address it.
Mr. Yaw Amoyaw-Osei, Executive Director of GreenAd, highlighted the long-standing collaboration between GreenAd and Earth, beginning from the Toxic Site Identification Project (TSIP), which used advanced tools such as XRF analysis to map out lead-contaminated hotspots in Ghana. Agbogbloshie, a critical site due to its severe pollution, became a focal point for action.
The Commissioner commended both organisations for their unwavering dedication to creating a cleaner, safer environment and expressed her willingness to support future collaborations that drive sustainable impact.
At GreenAd, we remain committed to advancing responsible e-waste management and safeguarding public health, one partnership at a time.
