🛠️ Work Experience Learning: when training meets the world of work!
As part of the Sustainable Education and Entrepreneurship (SEE) project, financed by Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo, an intensive training programme on Work Experience Learning (WEL) and Decent Work is bringing together companies, Industrial Liaison Officers from the project's target TVET institutions, and regional stakeholders working in the youth employment sector.

🧰 Delivered by CNOS FAP Nazionale (National Centre for Salesian Works – Vocational Training), the programme combines theoretical sessions and practical activities covering the concepts and policy foundations of WEL, roles and responsibilities, supervision and assessment, and career guidance, alongside practical tools for MoUs, training plans, learner assessment and self-assessment, record keeping, supervision and monitoring.

🔍 The training has so far reached Greater Accra, Northern Region and Bono Region, and is now taking place in the Western Region. A key element throughout the programme has been the visits to partner companies, creating a concrete opportunity for schools and businesses to meet, exchange and better understand each other's needs.

🔜 The training is only the first step. Over the course of the project, 27 co-design sessions will bring schools and companies together to develop WEL pathways tailored to the needs of each region, with the aim of establishing new partnership agreements between companies and TVET institutions.

📍 Three Days, Three Milestones: "SEE" Project in Action Across Bono and Western Region

🌍 Between 22 and 24 July, the "SEE" project — Sustainable Education and Entrepreneurship, funded by Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (AICS) — brought a full cycle of activities to life across Ghana's Bono and Western regions, part of a three-year initiative tackling youth unemployment and strengthening TVET across the country.

🤝 On Wednesday, Nsoatre Technical Institute hosted a Job Fair bringing together students, teachers and over twenty local entrepreneurs to discuss experiential learning and stronger industry participation in TVET delivery.

🖥️ Thursday's Open Day put students' skills on full display, with hands-on demonstrations across fashion design, catering, automotive technology, cosmetology, furniture-making, hairstyling, plumbing and electronics.

📒 Friday's spotlight moved to the Western Region, where students from Takoradi, Abura and Charlotte Dolphyene Technical Institutes came together for a Sports Day at Essipong Stadium, boosting the project's visibility and strengthening ties with beneficiary schools.

👉 Looking ahead, the project will replicate this cycle across all target institutions, alongside new digital and medical initiatives from October — working hand in hand with "INSPIRE", the sister AICS-funded project, to build a stronger TVET ecosystem in Ghana.

📍 SEE Project Sports Day: TVET Institutions Compete for Teamwork and Visibility

⚽ On Friday 24 July, VIS took part in a Sports Day at Essipong Sports Stadium, in Ghana's Western Region, organised as part of the "SEE" project to promote vocational education through sport. Students from participating Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions competed in football, athletics, basketball and table tennis, alongside teachers, principals and school management.

🤝 The event brought together Takoradi Technical Institute, Abura Technical Institute and Charlotte Dolphyene Technical Institute, creating a shared space for interaction, teamwork and healthy competition between beneficiary schools of the "SEE" project.

📸 Throughout the day, VIS communication and visibility materials — banners, backdrop, posters, trophies, placards and medals — were displayed to reinforce the project's presence and increase its visibility among students and stakeholders. The Western Region Field Officer coordinated the deployment of these materials and documented the event through photography for future reporting and communication.

📍 Leading with Purpose: Meet the Principal of Don Bosco Technical Institute, Odumase

🙏 Rev. Br. Patrick Sokuu is a Salesian Brother and the Principal of Don Bosco Technical Institute, Odumase, in the Sunyani West Municipality, Bono Region. Guided by the vision of St. John Bosco — forming "Good Christians and Honest Citizens" — he leads the school through the Salesian Preventive System, an educational approach built on Reason, Religion and Loving Kindness.

🏫 Established in 1992, Don Bosco Technical Institute Odumase is a Catholic, government-assisted TVET school offering training across sectors including automotive/mechanical, building and masonry, electrical and electronics, hotel and catering, and IT. Enrolment has grown rapidly under his leadership, reaching 1,240 students in the 2025/2026 academic year — an increase of around 46.6% over just two years.

🏆 That growth has come with recognition: the school was named 2nd Runner-Up for Best TVET School in Ghana at the 2025 Ghana TVET Excellence Awards, with three students also winning national awards.

📍 World Humanitarian Day 2026: "The Time for Consequence is Now"

🌍 On 19 August, VIS Ghana joins the global community in marking World Humanitarian Day, honouring the men and women who dedicate their lives to humanitarian service — often in silence, often in the most difficult and fragile contexts. This year, the United Nations' message is clear: humanitarian workers and the civilians they serve must never become targets, and the time for concern over attacks against them has passed — the time for consequence is now.

💪 Our operators, side by side with local communities, work every day to defend dignity, open doors of opportunity, and accompany those who risk being left behind. Their commitment is not without challenges — long hours, emotional strain, and the weight of witnessing hardship firsthand. Yet they continue, because humanity cannot wait.

📚 From vocational training for young people and women, to the protection of children, to building sustainable livelihoods, our teams across Ghana embody the spirit of humanitarian service: being present where hope is fragile but still alive.

📍 Two Days of Opportunity at Abura Technical Institute

🤝 On Wednesday 12 August, a Job Fair was organised at Abura Technical Institute under the "SEE" project, bringing students together with school management, teachers and invited industry professionals from sectors including culinary services, renewable energy, electrical installation, carpentry, fashion and design, and construction and engineering. Career talks, entrepreneurship sessions and a Q&A gave students practical insight into career pathways and workplace expectations after graduation.

🗣️ VIS Project Manager Davide Celio closed the day with an overview of the "SEE" project, its donors and objectives, helping students see the wider purpose behind their training and its role in supporting the transition from school to employment.

🖥️ The following day, Thursday 13 August, an Open and Sports Day brought together students and teachers from Abura Technical Institute alongside neighbouring Abura M.A. Basic School and Abura R/C Primary School. Visiting students explored departments including Electrical Engineering, ICT and Fashion Design through hands-on exhibitions and demonstrations, including a fashion show featuring garments designed and sewn by students themselves.

⚽ The day continued with a Sports Day, with football, netball, volleyball and table tennis bringing students together in friendly competition.

🎯 Two days that connected classroom learning with real career pathways, reinforcing the "SEE" project's commitment to strengthening TVET education in Ghana's Western Region.

📍 INSPIRE Project: Building New Opportunities for Ghana's Youth

🌍 Running since February 2025 and until February 2028, "INSPIRE" is funded by Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (AICS) and works to boost Ghana's economy by creating new job opportunities for young people, with a particular focus on women and people with disabilities.

🤝 Led by E4Impact, the project brings together VIS, the Don Bosco Youth Network (DBYN) and the University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA) in Ghana, alongside the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Italy. Activities are carried out across the same four regions as the "SEE" project: Greater Accra, Bono, Western and Northern.

📒 Progress so far includes fashion design, catering and automotive engineering equipment delivered to five Technical Institutes, alongside scholarships awarded to 126 girls and students with special needs. Two policies on gender inclusion and disability inclusion are also underway, expected by February 2027.

👉 Looking ahead, disability-inclusion awareness campaigns will roll out between September and October, while teacher trainings on Human Rights Based Approach and special needs education are expected to be carried out by the end of the year.

🎯 "INSPIRE" and "SEE" work hand in hand — sharing target institutions, aligning on TVET accreditation, and jointly strengthening Job Service Offices across Ghana's VTCs.

💡 Skills on display, innovation in action, new opportunities ahead!

Afienya Technical Institute brought its community together for engaging Open Day and Job Fair, creating a dynamic space to celebrate TVET, student creativity and stronger links with the world of work.

🤝 The events gathered traditional leaders, national authorities and key stakeholders, with representatives from different institutions contributing to discussions and activities. Their participation highlighted the shared responsibility of education, government, communities and industry in strengthening technical and vocational education in Ghana.

🧵 The Open Day offered visitors a complete overview of the institute, with all departments presenting their training areas, practical activities and achievements. Students showcased new machinery and solutions they developed, including work by students supported through INSPIRE scholarships. A particular highlight was the Fashion Department’s spectacular runway show, where students presented creative designs made from recycled materials—an impressive demonstration of how skills, creativity and sustainability can come together.

💼 The Job Fair provided a valuable meeting point between students and the private sector. Participating companies exhibited their products, engaged directly with learners and explored opportunities for future collaboration with the institute. These exchanges helped strengthen existing relationships while opening the door to new partnerships between education and industry.

📸 The Social Media Clubs of the school created with the support of the SEE Project played an active role, documenting the events through photography, video and interviews, helping students themselves become storytellers and amplifying the visibility of TVET and the achievements of their peers.

🚀 From practical innovation and sustainable fashion to industry engagement and community participation, the events demonstrated the potential of TVET to equip young people with relevant skills while fostering creativity, entrepreneurship and stronger connections with the labour market.

📍 International Youth Day 2026: Different Contexts, Common Aspirations

🌍 On 12 August, the world marks International Youth Day. This year's UN theme, "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations", is a reminder that young people everywhere — whatever their circumstances — share the same hopes: dignity, quality education, decent work and a real voice in shaping their future. In Ghana, where youth aged 15-35 make up around 38% of the population and children aged 0-14 a further 35.3%, investing in young people is investing in the country's future.

🤝 Since 2015, VIS Ghana has championed a holistic, inclusive approach to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), working closely with local institutions such as CTVET and the TVET Service, alongside the Salesians of Don Bosco. Today, this commitment continues through the AICS-funded "SEE" and "INSPIRE" projects, active across the Greater Accra, Bono, Western and Northern regions, alongside the support of the European Union (Erasmus+), Eni and UMANA/Confindustria Alto Adriatico.

📒 Together, these efforts work to promote access to quality education for all — especially girls, youth with disabilities and vulnerable groups — strengthen child protection systems, invest in teacher training and youth entrepreneurship, and build bridges between schools, international mobility and the private sector.

🎯 On this International Youth Day, VIS Ghana celebrates the strength, resilience and potential of Ghanaian youth. Different contexts, same aspirations — and the same commitment to walk alongside them.

📍 New Equipment Reaches Five Technical Institutes Under "INSPIRE"

🖥️ In recent months, new equipment has been delivered to five beneficiary institutes across Ghana. On 9 March, Afienya Technical Institute received a full set of catering equipment: a conventional oven, five four-burner stoves, five gas cylinders, 45 baking trays and two dough mixer machines.

✂️ On 12 May, Abora Technical Institute was equipped with 10 industrial sewing machines, 15 butterfly manual machines, a four-thread knitting machine, five electrical and industrial irons, and an embroidery machine. The same day, St Mary's Technical Institute received 15 industrial sewing machines, 40 butterfly manual machines and five cutting-out tables.

🧵 On 13 May, Charlotte Dolphyne Technical Institute was equipped for tailoring and garment production, with 10 industrial sewing machines, five electrical and industrial irons, three dummies, 20 yard sticks, 100 sheets of brown paper, 20 pinking shears, two rotary cutting machines and 50 scissors.

🚗 On 17 July, Nsoatre Technical Institute's automotive department received a car lift, an alignment machine, diagnostic scan tools, a tyre changing machine, an engine crane and an air compressor.

🎯 Equipment that translates directly into hands-on, job-ready training for students across catering, fashion design and automotive engineering.

🌍 "INSPIRE" is funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and works to boost Ghana's economy by creating new job opportunities for young people, improving the skills of youth through Vocational Training Centers to meet the demands of the labour market.
