GHAMSOF Distributes 8,200 Cashew Seedlings to Empower Women and Youth Farmers in Sissala West
The Ghana Association of Maize and Soya Bean Farmers (GHAMSOF) has distributed 8,200 cashew seedlings to 205 women and youth farmers in Puzene, Sissala West District, as part of efforts to promote sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, and improved livelihoods in the Upper West Region.
The distribution, which took place on 20 July 2026, forms part of GHAMSOF's ongoing project, "Empowering Women and Youth for Sustainable Agriculture and Resilient Livelihoods," implemented with technical and financial support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) through the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) Programme.
The initiative seeks to strengthen the capacity of women and young farmers in the Sissala East and West Districts by promoting agroforestry practices that improve environmental sustainability, restore degraded lands, and diversify household incomes.
In addition to receiving the seedlings, beneficiaries were taken through practical demonstrations on proper planting techniques, field establishment, and management practices to improve seedling survival rates and ensure long-term productivity. The intervention is expected to increase tree cover, enhance sustainable land management, support climate change adaptation, and create new economic opportunities for rural farming households.
Speaking on the significance of the exercise, Mr. Alhassan Nuhu, the project officer reaffirmed GHAMSOF's commitment to empowering smallholder farmers through sustainable agricultural interventions that contribute to inclusive rural development and environmental conservation.
The association expressed appreciation to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) for their continued technical and financial support. GHAMSOF also acknowledged the contributions of the Sissala West District Assembly, the District Forestry Division, the Department of Agriculture, traditional authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders whose collaboration has been instrumental in the successful implementation of the project.
Through initiatives such as this, GHAMSOF continues to promote sustainable farming practices, restore degraded landscapes, and build resilient livelihoods for farming communities while contributing to Ghana's broader environmental and climate action goals.
