Last week, YOPP successfully organised an interactive leadership training for executives of our 13 Local Youth Associations (LYAs) as part of our continuous commitment to building strong and sustainable community structures.

As part of our Capacity Acceleration Project (CAP), the training focused on practical leadership approaches and strategies that can help the associations function effectively, remain active, and sustain their impact within their communities. Participants engaged in discussions on organisational management, teamwork, accountability, and long-term sustainability of youth-led initiatives.

The session also served as an opportunity to assess the performance and strength of the LYAs using the Red–Yellow–Green (RYG) Assessment Model adopted by YOPP. The model helps identify associations that are strong, growing, or in need of additional support, allowing for targeted capacity-building and mentorship.
Through such engagements, YOPP continues to empower young leaders with the knowledge and tools needed to drive positive change and active citizenship in their communities.

Last Sunday, the YOPP General Sports Festival 2026 came to a successful close after four days of exciting competition, community engagement, and celebration in Dalun.

The festival brought together teams from across participating communities, delivering thrilling matches and memorable moments. In a highly competitive final, Kasuliyili held Kumbungu Walima to a 1–1 draw and emerged champions after an intense 8 – 7 penalty shootout. Earlier, Chirifoyili secured third place with a 1 – 0 victory over Woribogu.

Beyond the matches, the festival reflected the true spirit of unity and community. The people of Dalun came out in their numbers to support and cheer the teams, creating an electrifying atmosphere throughout the event. Activities such as the cultural display, reflection night, local games, and an exhibition of products from skills-training beneficiaries added depth and meaning to the festival.

The event concluded with a closing ceremony featuring awards to teams and players, presentation of certificates to skills training participants, and solidarity messages from invited guests.

YOPP continues to harness the power of sports to advance youth empowerment, community cohesion, and development.

The YOPP General Sports Festival 2026, currently underway in Dalun under the theme “Uniting Communities Through Sports for Youth Empowerment and Development,” has successfully completed two exciting days of activities.

The festival kicked off on Thursday with a strong opening match where K. Walima secured a 4–1 victory over Moglaa, setting the tone for competitive and spirited games.

Friday continued with more thrilling encounters:

Moglaa bounced back with a 1–0 win against Kasuliyili

Chirifoyili also secured a 1–0 victory over Tibung

Beyond the matches, the festival has been rich in community engagement. Teams paid a courtesy visit to the Dalun Chief Palace, reinforcing community ties. On Friday morning, YOPP engaged the public through a radio discussion, highlighting the role of sports in youth development and advocacy. The day ended on a high note with a vibrant cultural display by the Dalun Cultural Troupe, celebrating local heritage and unity.

As the festival progresses into the next stages, anticipation is building for the remaining group matches, semi-finals, and the grand finale.

From 7th to 9th April, YOPP successfully organised another session of its skills training programme under the ACTS Project, aimed at equipping young women with practical and income-generating skills.
Over the three-day training, 28 participants from various Local Gender Groups (LGGs) were engaged in hands-on learning across four specialised areas:
🔹 Beading
🔹 Bar Soap Production
🔹 Tie and Dye Making
🔹 Production and Sewing of Reusable Sanitary Pads and Baby Diapers

The training provided participants with valuable skills to support their economic independence while also addressing practical needs within their communities—particularly in the area of menstrual hygiene.
YOPP remains committed to strengthening the capacity of young women through skills development, fostering confidence, self-reliance, and sustainable livelihoods.

“𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝘼𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘾𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙘 𝙀𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙎𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙨 (𝘾𝘼𝘾𝙀𝙎)”

This 18-month initiative, implemented in partnership with Bidrag til Ghana (BtG), will officially commence in June 2026 and be carried out in rural communities in the Kumbungu, Savelugu, Tolon, and Sagnarigu Districts in Northern Ghana.

The CACES project aims to strengthen the capacity of Local Youth Associations (LYAs) and community-based organisations to actively engage in civic processes, advocate for improved livelihoods, and promote social accountability across rural communities in Northern Ghana.

Through our proven Sports as a Tool for Development (ST4D) approach, the project will:

Empower youth to engage duty bearers and influence local development decisions
Strengthen community structures for sustainable civic action
Support young people, especially women, with entrepreneurial and livelihood skills
Use sports, media, and community campaigns as tools for mobilisation and advocacy

We extend our sincere appreciation to CISU for the support and to our partners and communities for their trust and collaboration.

Together, we are building stronger communities and amplifying youth voices for change.
