Libraries are integral to learning and play a vital role in shaping confident, curious, and empowered young minds. 📚✨

On 3rd March 2026, Learners Girls Foundation implemented a Mini Library Initiative in five schools across Northern Ghana as part of our *Empowerment Through Reading* project, funded by the STAR-Ghana Foundation.

As part of our commitment to improving literacy and access to quality learning resources, we established five mini libraries stocked with books from our valued partner Book Aid International alongside additional educational materials donated to beneficiary schools.

The donated learning materials included:
📖 Basic school textbooks
📝 Workbooks to support classroom learning
📚 Storybooks to inspire imagination and creativity
📕 Novels and fiction books to encourage a love for reading
📓 Exercise books for daily academic activities
🎨 Drawing books to nurture creativity
✏️ Colour pencils and pens for writing and artistic expression

This initiative forms part of our ongoing efforts to nurture a strong reading culture and support academic development among children in underserved communities.

Through access to books and educational materials, we hope to equip students with the tools they need to learn, explore, imagine, and grow. Education remains a powerful pathway to opportunity, and every child deserves access to resources that help them reach their full potential.

Our profound gratitude goes to our dedicated team, volunteers, partners, and supporters who made this initiative possible. Together, we are creating spaces where children can read, dream, and thrive. 💙

Learners Girls Foundation (LGF) successfully organized a Parents' Engagement Forum under our Empowerment Through Reading(ETR) phase 2 funded by STAR-Ghana Foundation, which brought together parents, community leaders, teachers, and key stakeholders from the Sagnarigu and Lamashegu communities.

The event aimed at strengthening collaboration between families and communities while promoting shared responsibility in supporting children’s education and improving literacy outcomes. Through interactive discussions and knowledge sharing, participants explored practical ways to support children’s learning both at home and in school.

The session created a platform for meaningful dialogue, where parents shared their experiences in supporting their children’s education, while facilitators and educators provided guidance on building strong reading habits and creating supportive learning environments at home.

💬 “The development of every community depends largely on the knowledge children acquire daily.” – Chairperson, Mba Fuseini Muhammad, Sagnarigu Chief Palace Kpanalana.

💬 “Literacy is the foundation of all learning.” – Madam Beata A. Anab, Tuunaayili M/A Headteacher

💬 “When the community takes ownership of a project, it becomes sustainable and continues to serve generations beyond us.” – Kris Nystrom, Ed.D., Executive Director, Reading the World

We were honored to have Kris Nystrom, Ed.D. join us virtually, where he shared valuable insights on the Reading Clinic Project—a sustainable, community-driven initiative designed to provide children with access to books and learning support. His emphasis on community ownership highlighted the importance of building solutions that last beyond project timelines.

The event reinforced the critical role that parents and communities play in shaping children’s academic success and overall development. It also strengthened partnerships and renewed commitment among stakeholders to work together in promoting literacy and quality education.

Together, we are building empowered communities where every child has the opportunity to read, learn, and succeed. 🌱📖

Over the past few weeks, our dedicated facilitators have been delivering engaging and innovative literacy sessions under the *Empowerment Through Reading (LGF-ETR)* project, generously funded by the Star Ghana Foundation.

At the Learners Girls Foundation, we believe learning should be interactive, relatable, and inspiring. By integrating visuals into traditional teaching methods, we are helping learners better understand concepts and connect classroom lessons to real-life experiences.

In a recent session on *Natural Disasters*, with a focus on *Earthquakes*, students explored the topic through visual presentations displayed on a TV screen. They watched, reflected, and engaged in meaningful discussions sharing their thoughts, asking questions, and deepening their understanding together.

It was truly inspiring to see their enthusiasm and confidence as they participated.

Below are highlights from a recent engagement at Hilaliya Islamic School, facilitated by Salamata and Rauf Moshi

We remain passionate about making learning fun, accessible, and impactful, one community at a time. 🌱📚

📚✨ Empowering Educators. Transforming Literacy. ✨📚

On 15th January 2026, Learners Girls Foundation (LGF), with generous support from the STAR Ghana Foundation, successfully held a Teachers’ and Volunteers’ Training under Phase Two of the Empowerment Through Reading (ETR) Project.

The training brought together dedicated teachers, facilitators, and mentors from our beneficiary schools to strengthen their skills in delivering structured, engaging, and child-centred literacy interventions. Together, we reflected on lessons from Phase One and aligned on clear, impactful strategies for Phase Two.

🔑 Key focus areas included:

📖 Using the ETR Facilitators’ Guide for effective reading sessions
💻 Integrating ICT tools to enhance teaching and learning
📊 Conducting digital literacy assessments and data collection
🌍 Embedding real-life issues like climate change, CSE, and teenage pregnancy into age-appropriate reading activities.

We also strengthened monitoring, reporting, and accountability systems to ensure quality delivery and sustainable impact.

This training marks an important step toward improving learning outcomes, building a strong reading culture, and driving community-led literacy solutions across Tamale Metro and Sagnarigu District in Northern Ghana.

📘🌱 Together, we are empowering children with the skills to read, learn, and lead.

Happy New Year from all of us at Learners Girls Foundation!

We are excited to announce the continuation of our partnership with STAR Ghana Foundation as we officially begin Phase Two of the Empowerment Through Reading (ETR) Project, implemented in five basic schools in the Northern Region of Ghana.

Phase Two was launched with a successful stakeholder engagement, bringing together representatives from the Ghana Education Service (GES), headteachers, teacher mentors, and the LGF project team. Together, we reflected on the achievements of Phase One and co-designed a more structured, impactful, and sustainable approach for the next phase.

Building on the success of community-based volunteerism demonstrated in Phase One, ETR Phase II aims to:
• Improve literacy outcomes among basic school pupils
• Promote a strong culture of reading and learning
• Strengthen school and community engagement
• Support inclusive and equitable education delivery

We are excited to continue this journey with our partners, volunteers, and communities as we work to empower learners through reading.

Our sincere gratitude to STAR Ghana Foundation, Ghana Education Service, Book Aid International, and all our partners for their continued support and commitment to transforming education through literacy.

On 15 December 2025, Learners Girls Foundation (LGF) successfully held a Stakeholder Validation Workshop on the Empower Her Project at Nanton Girls Model JHS, marking the close of a year-long implementation.

The workshop brought together educators, parents, traditional and religious leaders, local authorities, partners, and students to validate project deliverables, review the sustainability plan, and strengthen community ownership. Discussions focused on addressing school infrastructure gaps and improving girls’ enrolment, retention, and learning outcomes.

Key barriers identified, particularly in rural areas, included limited learning materials and early marriage. Stakeholders emphasized that sustainable education depends on strong community support for teachers, early guidance for children, and protection of educational resources.

Recommendations included increased parental engagement through community dialogues, improved school infrastructure, integration of STEM, entrepreneurship, and life skills, and proper maintenance of donated resources.

LGF remains committed to making accessible quality education for all and calls on NGOs, corporate institutions, faith-based organizations, development partners, and government agencies to partner with us to sustain and scale impact.

Over the past week, Learners Girls Foundation delivered an empowering Entrepreneurship and STEM Workshop for students of Nanton Girls Model JHS, as part of the Empower Her Project, funded by the KGL Foundation.

The workshop equipped young girls with practical skills in Career Guidance, business start-up development, small-scale management, safeguarding, and strategic planning- all essential tools for building confidence and shaping their future pathways.

Today, we proudly highlight Azara Sulemana, our dedicated Project Lead, who facilitated a deeply impactful session on Safeguarding, particularly focusing on how girls can protect themselves while participating in kayaye-related trading activities.
Her session resonated strongly with students, offering guidance that is both timely and life-changing.

Azara shared empowering messages such as:
• “Your safety comes first—always.”
• “Protect your personal information; it is part of your security.”
• “Be cautious with strangers and trust your instincts.”

Her session created a safe space for students to reflect, ask questions, and gain essential knowledge that supports their well-being, both in school and beyond.

At Learners Girls Foundation, we believe that empowering girls goes beyond academics; it includes equipping them with the awareness, skills, and confidence to navigate life safely and boldly.
Together, we are nurturing informed, resilient, and empowered young leaders. 💜✨

Nanton D/A Girls Model JHS ✅
This week, Learners Girls Foundation (LGF) officially handed over 50 dual desks to Nanton D/A Girls Model JHS as part of the Empower Her Project, proudly funded by the KGL Foundation. This initiative reflects our continued commitment to creating supportive and equitable learning environments for girls in Northern Ghana.

Azara Sulemana, the Project Lead, shared the LGF vision that drives this initiative, a vision of empowering young people through access to quality education and strengthening the systems that shape their futures. Such as classrooms where students, especially girls, feel supported, encouraged, and equipped to learn.

As we officially handed over the desks, our Finance Officer, Ahmed Fatogma Yakubu, reaffirmed LGF’s commitment to creating safe and inspiring learning spaces. Representatives from the KGL Foundation echoed this message, encouraging students to support one another, manage their time wisely, and engage in peer-learning groups.

The headmistress, PTA representatives, and the Girls’ Education Coordinator from the Ghana Education Service expressed heartfelt appreciation, describing the intervention as timely and deeply impactful.

The school leadership shared ongoing challenges that continue to hinder learning:
✅ Insufficient school uniforms
☑️ Lack of electricity in key facilities
These needs remind us that transforming education goes beyond infrastructure; it requires holistic support that safeguards both well-being and academic success.

🤝 Call for Support & Partnerships ♻️
We invite: Philanthropic partners, corporate organizations, and Individuals passionate about education to collaborate with us in addressing these urgent needs.
