Over the weekend at 2025 in , our team member Sadik Shahadu joined an incredible panel with Kadian, Vardon, and Chioma to unpack how , pop , and design reinforce gendered violence, exclusion, and erasure and how we can co-create safer, more inclusive systems.

The session highlighted that technology is not neutral. Built within systems shaped by patriarchy, , and economic inequality, tools often fail to protect those most affected, especially women and marginalized communities in the Global South.

From AI’s bias toward English to how local slang and pop culture shape harmful narratives online, the discussion called for rethinking tech from the ground up, centering care, community, and accountability in every design choice.
