We are proud to share that Ghana Developing Communities Association - GDCA has been honoured with the Outstanding Partnership Award in recognition of our distinguished collaboration and exceptional generosity in supporting the establishment and growth of the Tamale Campus of the Lions Training Institute.

This award was conferred on us during the third graduation ceremony of the Lions Training Institute, which was held last Saturday in Accra.

Our Executive Director; Mr Philip Gmabi, received the plaque on behalf of the organisation.

This recognition reflects our commitment to investing in people and communities through the provision of vital infrastructure and resources. Together, we are expanding opportunities, transforming lives and advancing a shared vision of excellence.

We remain grateful for the partnerships that make this impact possible and look forward to achieving even more together.

Ghana Developing Communities Association - GDCA is excited to kick off Phase 1 of our Advancing Local Leadership journey, bringing together staff and board members for a powerful learning and reflection experience.

The session, held on Monday, 27 April 2026, set the tone for an 18-month journey focused on shifting power and strengthening locally led development, building a shared understanding of local leadership in practice, co-creating a Local Leadership Framework, and developing a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Tool.

Guided by Charles Kojo Vandyck from West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI), the workshop created a safe and inclusive space where participants shared real experiences, actively listened, and co-created solutions that matter.

Insights that emerged from this workshop will shape future learning sessions and drive meaningful, lasting change across all of our work.

Halfway through an inspiring journey in Northern Ghana.

Since the beginning of her deployment to us (Ghana Developing Communities Association - GDCA), Alessandra has been working on the ground to design and implement a community-based education initiative dubbed: "A Voice for Ghana" aimed at strengthening basic literacy and numeracy amongst women in rural villages. Many of the participants had never had the opportunity to attend school making this initiative a first step toward greater autonomy in their daily lives.

Over the past months, Alessandra has worked closely with local teachers, community leaders and participants to launch the first phase of the classes. Through regular monitoring visits and direct engagement with the communities, she has been able to follow the progress of the learners, identify challenges and adapt the learning approach to better respond to the needs observed in the field.

The project focuses on building essential skills such as recognizing letters, writing one’s name and working with basic numbers — small steps that can make a meaningful difference when selling goods at the market, managing money or supporting children’s early learning at home.

Beyond the field activities, Alessandra has also supported GDCA’s internal work by contributing to the organisation’s strategic planning process through analysis and presentations, and by strengthening staff capacity building through digital skills trainings.

We are proud to see this work taking shape and look forward to following the next steps of the project in the coming months.

Field Monitoring Mission for the PARKS TVET Project in Northern Ghana

We (GDCA) recently had the privilege of hosting a field monitoring mission by our valued donor, Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and international partner, Acting for Life, as part of the ongoing implementation of the PARCS TVET Project in Northern Ghana.

The mission provided an opportunity to visit project communities, engage directly with trainees and local stakeholders, and assess the progress of technical and vocational education and training initiatives aimed at improving skills, employability, social cohesion, and livelihood opportunities for youth and women.

These engagements also enabled partners to reflect on key achievements, share lessons learned, and explore opportunities to further strengthen inclusive and market-responsive skills development.

GDCA remains committed to collaborating with partners to expand sustainable livelihood opportunities, strengthen social cohesion, and community resilience through high-quality TVET interventions.

We (Ghana Developing Communities Association - GDCA) have begun the process of developing a new five-year Strategic Plan (2026–2030) to guide our work and impact over the coming years.

As part of this process, GDCA on Thursday, March 05, organised a PESTLE Analysis Workshop to examine key factors shaping the organisation’s operating environment. The session focused on issues related to politics, economics, social dynamics, technology, legal and the environment.

The workshop brought together Members of the Governing Board, staff of GDCA and representatives of our Danish partner; Ghana Venskab, to reflect on emerging opportunities, challenges and priorities that will inform the next phase of our work.

The upcoming strategic plan will succeed the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan, which delivered significant results across several areas. Over the past four years, GDCA has supported skills training and economic empowerment for youth and women, strengthened governance and accountability initiatives and earned recognition as a collaborative leader in community development.

The new strategy will build on these achievements while positioning GDCA to respond more effectively to evolving development needs and opportunities.

This week, we hosted a three-member team from MTÜ Mondo, Estonia, as part of our ongoing partnership under the European Solidarity Corps.

Since 2020, as part of the partnership, NGO Mondo has been deploying volunteers, mostly from Europe, to support our work in communities across the northern part of Ghana where we serve.

During the visit, the team met with our Executive Director and staff where they were taken through an overview of our mission, programmes and impact over the years.

The team also toured selected communities to interact with beneficiaries and observe firsthand the interventions being implemented by volunteers currently deployed with us.

The visit provided an opportunity for us to reflect on our shared achievements and to strengthen our collaboration.

We appreciate NGO Mondo’s continuous commitment to community development and international solidarity.
