🌸 Empowering Young Weavers: Defilement Awareness Session
On 19 May 2025, Women Haven Resource Center spent an inspiring Saturday with a group of talented teenage girls in Kumbuyili who are passionate about weaving.
During the session, we talked openly about defilement , what it is, its consequences, and how to protect themselves. We discussed an important truth: abuse can come from anyone . Their Parents , relatives, respected community members, friends, or even strangers. But no one has the right to hurt them, threaten them, or silence them.
We encouraged the girls to speak out, report abuse, and seek help when needed. They learned about safe reporting channels, including their school teachers, parents or guardians, the police, and most importantly, Women Haven Resource Center. We also introduced them to the work we do and reminded them that our doors are always open whenever they need support.
The session also highlighted the importance of self-care, safety, education, and skills training. We reminded them that the weaving skills they are developing are not just a hobby , but are tools for empowerment and building a brighter future.
By the end of the day, the girls had a stronger understanding of their rights and the confidence to protect themselves. They committed to taking their studies and weaving seriously while supporting one another to create a safer, respectful community.
We are proud of these young weavers for their courage, engagement, and dedication to shaping their futures.
