YMF Academy is excited to announce the YMF Academy Vacation Learning Camp 2026, a free educational initiative aimed at supporting pupils during the long vacation.

Theme: “Bridging Learning Gaps, Building Brighter Futures.”

We are looking for passionate, dedicated, and selfless volunteers to serve as teachers from August to September 2026. If you are a trained teacher, student teacher, graduate, national service personnel, or someone with a passion for education and mentoring young learners, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact.

Subject: Strategic Meeting on Fundraising for the YMF JHS Quiz Competition

Young Mentees Foundation (YMF) held a strategic planning meeting on Saturday, 4th July 2026, to deliberate on sustainable fundraising approaches for the YMF Junior High School (JHS) Quiz Competition. The meeting brought together members to brainstorm practical and innovative strategies aimed at mobilizing financial and in-kind support to ensure the successful implementation of the competition.

Members engaged in productive discussions and generated a number of viable fundraising strategies. Key proposals included engaging corporate organizations through sponsorship packages, approaching financial institutions and telecommunications companies for partnerships, writing grant proposals to local and international donors, seeking support from Members of Parliament, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), and relevant government agencies, and strengthening collaboration with the Ghana Education Service and other educational stakeholders.
The meeting also proposed leveraging media partnerships, organizing fundraising events, reaching out to alumni, philanthropists, and community leaders, introducing individual and organizational donation drives, and utilizing digital fundraising platforms and social media campaigns to attract wider public support. Members further emphasized the importance of developing attractive sponsorship proposals that clearly outline the benefits available to prospective sponsors.
It was unanimously agreed that implementation teams would be constituted to engage the identified stakeholders and execute the various fundraising strategies. Members reaffirmed their commitment to working collectively to secure the necessary resources and ensure another successful edition of the YMF JHS Quiz Competition.
The meeting concluded with optimism and a shared commitment to translating the agreed strategies into measurable outcomes.

YAAN Holds Successful 2026 Induction and Swearing-in Ceremony for New Members

On Saturday, 27th June 2026, the Young Mentees Foundation (YMF) successfully organized the 2026 Induction and Swearing-in Ceremony for new members of the YMF Academy Alumni Network (YAAN). The memorable event marked another important milestone in the Foundation’s mission of nurturing young leaders and strengthening youth participation in community development.

The ceremony officially welcomed a new cohort of members from the Gukpegu Tua and Vittin communities, increasing the total membership of the YMF Academy Alumni Network to approximately 200 active members. These members are graduates and beneficiaries of the Foundation’s educational and mentorship programmes who have demonstrated commitment, leadership potential, and a strong passion for volunteerism and community service.

During the ceremony, the new members were formally inducted into the Network and took the YAAN Oath of Membership, pledging to uphold the values of integrity, discipline, teamwork, accountability, and selfless service. They also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the vision and mission of the Young Mentees Foundation by actively participating in educational initiatives, mentorship programmes, environmental campaigns, community development projects, and other youth-focused interventions.

The programme also featured orientation and leadership sessions, during which members were introduced to the structure, constitution, policies, and operational framework of YAAN. They were encouraged to become ambassadors of positive change within their schools, communities, and workplaces while promoting the Foundation’s core values.

The successful ceremony brought together officials of the Young Mentees Foundation, alumni members, community leaders, invited guests, and supporters who joined to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter for the inducted members. Their presence and words of encouragement inspired the new members to embrace leadership with humility, dedication, and a spirit of service.

With the addition of the newly inducted members, YAAN has grown into a vibrant network of nearly 200 young leaders, positioning the Network to expand its impact across the Gukpegu Tua and Vittin communities and beyond. The Foundation remains committed to empowering young people with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities needed to contribute meaningfully to national development.

The Young Mentees Foundation expresses its sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the ceremony, particularly the leadership of YAAN, volunteers, facilitators, guests, and all stakeholders whose support made the event a memorable and successful one. ALLEGED TEACHER-STUDENT SEXUAL MISCONDUCT IN A SCHOOL SCIENCE LABORATORY: A CALL FOR PROFESSIONALISM, ACCOUNTABILITY, AND CHILD PROTECTION

Young Mentees Foundation (YMF) has taken note of reports circulating on social media and other platforms alleging that a teacher engaged in a sexual act with a student in a science laboratory at Bole Senior High School.

While the facts of the matter are yet to be conclusively established by the appropriate authorities, the allegation raises serious concerns about the safety and protection of learners within educational institutions. Schools are expected to provide secure environments where students can pursue their education free from abuse, exploitation, intimidation, and any form of sexual misconduct.

Teaching is a noble profession built on trust, responsibility, and the duty of care. Teachers are entrusted with the intellectual, emotional, and moral development of learners and are therefore expected to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct at all times.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) Code of Conduct expressly prohibits any conduct that may amount to sexual harassment or sexual violence against learners. Under Part 3 of the GES Code of Conduct, which addresses rules of conduct for staff, the section on Sexual Violence states:

"No employee shall directly or indirectly do anything that may constitute sexual harassment of a pupil/student."

This provision underscores the zero-tolerance position of GES regarding sexual misconduct involving students. Any teacher found culpable of engaging in sexual relations with a student not only violates professional ethics but also undermines public confidence in the educational system and jeopardizes the welfare of learners.

Beyond the GES Code of Conduct, such behaviour may constitute a violation of Ghana's child protection laws and other applicable legal provisions, depending on the age of the student and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Educational institutions must remain places of learning, mentorship, and character formation. The misuse of authority by any staff member for sexual purposes is unacceptable and must be addressed swiftly and decisively through established disciplinary and legal procedures.

Recommendations by Young Mentees Foundation (YMF)

In light of the reported incident, Young Mentees Foundation respectfully recommends the following:

1. Strengthen Enforcement of the GES Code of Conduct

The Government of Ghana and the Ghana Education Service should ensure strict enforcement of the Code of Conduct and apply appropriate sanctions against any staff member found guilty of sexual misconduct.

2. Mandatory Annual Ethics Training

All teaching and non-teaching staff should undergo annual training on professional ethics, safeguarding, child protection, and sexual harassment prevention.

3. Establish Safe Reporting Mechanisms

Schools should create confidential and student-friendly reporting channels that allow students to report abuse without fear of victimization or retaliation.

4. Increase Guidance and Counselling Services

Every second-cycle institution should be adequately resourced with trained counsellors to support students facing abuse, harassment, or emotional distress.

5. Strengthen School Supervision

School authorities should enhance supervision of laboratories, offices, dormitories, and other spaces where students may be vulnerable to exploitation.

6. Promote Child Protection Education

Students should be regularly educated on their rights, personal safety, consent, and available reporting mechanisms.

7. Expedite Investigations

Where allegations of sexual misconduct arise, investigations should be conducted promptly, fairly, and transparently while ensuring the protection of victims and witnesses.

Conclusion
The future of Ghana depends on the integrity of its educational system. Every learner deserves a safe environment in which to learn, grow, and achieve their full potential. Young Mentees Foundation therefore calls on all stakeholders government agencies, school authorities, teachers, parents, and civil society organizations to work together to safeguard children and uphold the highest standards of professionalism in our schools.
No child should ever become a victim of abuse in a place meant to nurture knowledge, character, and hope.

On 2nd May 2026, we successfully organized a Capacity Building Training for BECE candidates at Gukpegu Tua. Due to the closeness of the BECE examinations and time limitations, this year’s session was specially dedicated to YMF Academy BECE candidates.
The training focused on preparing students mentally and academically for the upcoming examinations by equipping them with examination techniques, time management skills, confidence-building strategies, and motivation to excel.
We are proud of the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the students throughout the session. At YMF Academy, we remain committed to empowering young minds and supporting academic excellence within our community.

We are excited to share that YMF Academy has successfully rolled out a strategic intervention plan to improve the academic performance of our BECE candidates at Gukpegu Tua.
Following our initial assessment, which revealed significant challenges in Mathematics, English, and Science, we have taken bold and structured steps to address these gaps.
Our approach includes:
Continuous assessments every three weeks to track progress
Targeted remedial classes based on students’ ability levels
Intensive subject clinics focusing on core subjects
Peer learning and mentorship among students
Regular teacher review meetings to improve teaching strategies
Strict monitoring and evaluation to measure improvement
We are also introducing motivational sessions, exam technique training, and parental engagement, all aimed at building confidence and ensuring our students are fully prepared for the BECE.

YMF ACADEMY – 1ST MOCK RESULTS UPDATE
The results of our 1st Mock Examination (Core Subjects) are out. As expected, performance has been generally low, with only 5% of students performing well while 95% fell below expectations.
However, this is not a setback it is part of the process.
At YMF Academy, our first mock is intentionally designed as a trial assessment to evaluate students’ understanding across key subjects. It helps us identify gaps, strengths, and areas that need urgent attention before the final examinations.
What this means:
These results provide us with a clear direction to develop targeted strategies, improve teaching approaches, and intensify academic support for our students.
The Way Forward:
We are rolling out intensive revision sessions, guided learning, and performance-based interventions to ensure significant improvement in the next phase.
