UBUNTU PHILOSOPHY SCHOOL – 2nd Edition Accra

Following its inaugural edition in Dakar, the Ubuntu Philosophy School continues its pan-African journey, setting up camp in Accra, Ghana, from July 27th to 29th, 2026, on the sidelines of the World Social Forum.

Organized by the Kilimo Ekolojia movement, this second edition brings together activists, researchers, community leaders, and pan-Africanist movements from 10 African countries, with the participation of more than 15 engaged movements across the continent.

Center for Opportunities and Rural Development-CORD-GHANA among other organizations is participating in this event and contributing to its organization, as a member of the Kilimo Ekolojia movement.

At the heart of the discussions, a key theme: “The Ubuntu Philosophy and the Challenges of Reparations in Africa: Reflections and Perspectives”

Through this school, the Kilimo Ekolojia movement aims to strengthen Pan-African dynamics, reconnect historical struggles to contemporary challenges, and make Ubuntu a living philosophy at the service of transforming our societies.

UBUNTU PHILOSOPHY SCHOOL – 2ᵉ ÉDITION ACCRA

Après une première édition à Dakar, l'Ubuntu Philosophy School poursuit son chemin panafricain et pose ses valises à Accra, au Ghana, du 27 au 29 juillet 2026, en marge du Forum Social Mondial.

Portée par le mouvement Kilimo Ekolojia, cette 2ᵉ édition rassemble des activistes, chercheurs, leaders communautaires et mouvements panafricanistes venus de 10 pays africains, avec la participation de plus de 15 mouvements engagés à travers le continent.

JVE Bénin prend part à cette rencontre et contribue à son organisation, de par son appartenance au mouvement Kilimo Ekolojia.

Au cœur des échanges, un thème essentiel : « La philosophie Ubuntu et les défis des réparations en Afrique : réflexions et perspectives »

À travers cette école, le mouvement Kilimo Ekolojia entend renforcer les dynamiques panafricaines, reconnecter les luttes historiques aux défis contemporains et faire de l'Ubuntu une philosophie vivante au service de la transformation de nos sociétés.

🌊🌱 WORLD MANGROVE DAY 2026 – PROTECTING OUR GREEN COASTAL GUARDIANS! 🌱🌊

Today, July 26th, Center for Opportunities and Rural Development-CORD-GHANA joins the world to celebrate International Day for the Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystems.

From the Volta to the Northern savanna – all ecosystems are connected. What happens in our forests affects our coasts, and what happens on our coasts affects our food.

Why Mangroves Matter for Ghana:
✅ They store 5x more carbon than terrestrial forests – our best natural defense against climate change
✅ They protect our coastline from erosion, storm surges and rising sea levels
✅ They are nurseries for fish – 80% of fish in Ghana depend on mangroves at some stage
✅ They provide livelihoods for women who process fish, harvest oysters and make fuel

Yet Ghana has lost over 40% of its mangroves to over-harvesting, salt mining, development and pollution.

At CORD Ghana, we know this fight – just as we fight for FMNR and agroecology in the north, we stand with coastal communities fighting to restore mangroves in Keta, Ada and Nzema.

No ecosystem left behind. No community left behind.

African Women's Development Fund UN Women Esyet Ventures MeekCare UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women Global Fund for Women

🚨1 million+ women and girls have lost access to life-saving services since January 2025.
Not because the need went away. Because the funding did.

A new UN Women report, "Beyond the Breaking Point" out this month puts a number on something grantee partners have been telling us for over a year: the money is running out, and women are stepping in with their own labor to keep the doors open.

❎Nearly 9 in 10 organizations say they can no longer meet current levels of need.
❎Two in five expect to shut down, temporarily or permanently, within the year.

Sustained, flexible funding to women-led organizations is what keeps a shelter's doors open, a legal aid line staffed, a safe space running.

Center for Opportunities and Rural Development (CORD-Ghana) was part of this year’s Ghana Civil Society Forum 2026. The forum was held under the theme , recognizing the evolving development landscape marked by rising socioeconomic challenges, climate change, and the growing need for locally driven, sustainable development solutions.
Three key takeaways from the guest speakers at the 4th Ghana Civil Society Forum 2026 (GCSF2026) include;
1. The Ghana Civil Society Forum 2026 reinforced that the future of democratic governance and inclusive development depends on reimagining partnerships based on trust, shared responsibility, accountability, and local ownership

2. The discussions highlighted that Ghana must increasingly rely on its own human, financial, and institutional resources, while also recognizing young people as critical actors in shaping the future of democratic governance and sustainable development.
3. Africa has the opportunity to lead differently by embracing locally driven, inclusive, and resilient development approaches.
