Yesterday - April 22, we celebrated Earth Day with purpose, passion, and partnership 🌍💚

Center for Opportunities and Rural Development-CORD-GHANA in collaboration with NOBISCO-Tamale , marked the day with impactful activities that empowered students to take action for the planet.

The celebration began with a 30-minute Green Talk, where students engaged in meaningful conversations on climate change, , and the of youth-driven . The energy in the room was inspiring, with young voices eager to be part of the .

This was followed by a Plastic Collection Drive across the school compound. Students and volunteers came together to actively clean their environment, reinforcing the importance of responsibility and collective action.

The collected plastics were then transformed through an session, demonstrating how waste can be turned into valuable resources. Creativity met sustainability as students learned practical ways to reduce environmental impact.

To crown the day, we planted trees which are symbols of hope and commitment to a greener future. Each seedling represents a step toward restoring our environment and building against .

This successful collaboration is a reminder that when institutions come together, real change happens.

At CORD Ghana, we remain committed to empowering young people and communities to lead the charge for a sustainable future.

Today, we celebrate Earth Day a global reminder that protecting our planet is a shared responsibility and a call to action for individuals, communities, and organizations alike.
At Center for Opportunities and Rural Development-CORD-GHANA, Earth Day is not just a moment, it is a movement we actively drive through impactful, community-centered interventions.

Center for Opportunities and Rural Development-CORD-GHANA , in collaboration with NOBISCO–Tamale, proudly joins the global community to celebrate Earth Day 2026 with action-driven initiatives aimed at inspiring sustainable change among students and the wider community.

This year, we are turning awareness into action through impactful activities on campus:

🌿 Green Talk
An interactive session focused on climate change, plastic pollution, and how students can take meaningful action for a sustainable future.

♻️ Plastic Collection Drive
Students and members of the Green Schools Initiative (GSI) will lead a campus-wide plastic collection exercise, promoting responsible waste management and environmental stewardship.

🔄 Upcycling in Action
Collected plastics will be transformed into valuable resources, demonstrating practical solutions to reducing and encouraging practices.

🌳 Tree Planting Exercise
Over 20 seedlings will be planted to mark Earth Day, contributing to increased cover and a campus environment.

Together, we are empowering to lead the change towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.

Time spent with focus on inclusion is time well spent.
Center for Opportunities and Rural Development-CORD-GHANA, in collaboration with the Sagnerigu Society of Persons with Physical Disability and other valued partners, successfully hosted the Social Inclusion Capacity Building Initiative.
Under the theme “Disability Inclusive Climate Adaptation,” the initiative brought together stakeholders to knowledge, share experiences, and promote inclusive approaches to climate resilience.
✨ The engagement created a platform to amplify the voices of persons with disabilities, ensuring their active participation in climate adaptation strategies and decision-making processes.
At CORD Ghana, we remain committed to fostering inclusive, , and resilient communities where no one is left behind.

Exciting News!

We're thrilled to announce our partnership with the Department of Agriculture Mion to promote sustainable farming practices through biochar production in hard to reach communities in the Mion District under the Sustainable to Resource Initiative ( )!

Biochar is a natural, organic amendment that can improve soil fertility, increase crop yields, and even help sequester and prevent . By converting agricultural waste into biochar, we're not only reducing waste but also creating a valuable resource for local farmers especially women smallholder farmers.

Our joint efforts aim to:
- Enhance soil health and fertility
- Enhance Prevention of methane gas emissions
- Sequester carbon
- Support climate-smart agriculture
- Empower local communities through sustainable livelihoods

Thanks to the Department of Agriculture Mion, the Network of Youth for Climate Action Africa, Savannah Rural Women Voices Assembly and the Youth Alliance for Climate and Environmental Sustainability for their support and collaboration!

Courage Kojo - Capacity Building lead - Network of Youth for Climate Action Africa (NYCA-AFRICA) shared insights on the theme Climate, Water and Gender.
He highlighted that water systems will be sustainable when women are involved.
He added women should be innovators and not just beneficiaries.
