Last week, SDD Ghana partnered with Star Ghana Foundation to produce a documentary highlighting the incredible impact of the Children's Assembly Programme in Nyankpala and Tolon.

The documentary features inspiring stories and interviews with Children’s Assembly members, dedicated volunteers, and the District Chief Executive (DCE), showcasing how the programme is empowering children to raise their voices and create positive change in their communities.

𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗗𝗥𝗘𝗡 𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗟𝗜𝗘𝗦 𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗧 𝗧𝗢𝗟𝗢𝗡 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗧 𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗟𝗬

Members of the N-Nye Yem and Beyom Children's Assemblies visited the Tolon District Assembly on 19 June 2026 as part of the Social Accountability and Inclusion through Children Assemblies Project. The visit aimed to help the children understand local governance and interact with assembly officials.

The children were welcomed by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Seidu Braimah, the Presiding Member, Hon. Mahama Seidu, and the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Andrew Abadeka Akumbutum. They received lessons on leadership, local governance, assembly functions, funding sources, and decision-making processes.

The children also engaged with the Environmental Health Unit and learned about sanitation and their role in keeping communities clean.

The visit provided valuable firsthand experience of local government operations and strengthened the children's understanding of civic participation and community development.

The project is funded by the STAR-Ghana Foundation under the Volunteerism Call and is implemented by SDD GHANA with support from dedicated volunteers.

𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶

Last week, Savings and Development Dialogue Ghana (SDD-GH), in partnership with STAR-Ghana Foundation organized a three-day training session for Volunteers and Head Teachers under the Volunteerism Project.

The training was designed to enhance participants' understanding of local governance structures, decentralized departments, assembly committees, their specific roles and responsibilities.
Participants were also engaged on safeguarding principles and practices. Through interactive sessions, participants are being equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to engage effectively with local authorities, promote accountability, and safeguard the rights and well-being of children and vulnerable persons in their communities.

This initiative reflects our commitment to strengthening community participation, fostering responsible citizenship, and building safer and more inclusive communities for sustainable development.

Last week, the management of SDD-GH paid a strategic working visit to the Yendi Municipal Assembly to explore the area’s cultural and tourism potential. The visit also focused on strengthening partnerships to promote sustainable tourism and create economic opportunities for local communities.

SDD Ghana has officially begun Phase 2 of the Children’s Assembly initiative under the STAR-Ghana Foundation sponsored Volunteerism project. Deepening understanding of the District Assembly concept and sustainability of the Children’s Assemblies is at the center of our approach.

As part of our stakeholder consultations, we paid a courtesy visit to the Director of Education, Ghana Education Service (GES) – Tolon District to discuss stronger collaboration and the next steps toward establishing Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with GES.
These MOUs will help embed the Children’s Assembly concept within local education and governance structures, so young people can continue learning civic leadership, participation, and responsible citizenship for years to come.

We are grateful to the District Director of Education and his team for the warm reception and constructive engagement. We are also grateful to our untiring and passionate volunteers who have been critical to deepening understanding of local governance.
