The streets of the Northern Regional capital came alive on the morning of 15th March 2026, as a powerful wave of humanity flooded the roads in a spirited Health Walk organized by the Ghana Red Cross Society. What many described as “a city on fire” was not chaos, but a vibrant display of unity, purpose, and commitment to humanitarian service.
Clad in red and white, volunteers, students, and security personnel marched side by side, sending a strong message about the importance of health awareness and the visibility of the Red Cross mission. The walk, proudly sponsored by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), brought together a diverse group of participants, reflecting the strength of collaboration in building healthier communities.
Among those who joined the walk were personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Immigration Service, whose presence ensured both security and solidarity. Youthful energy was evident as members of the Ghana Scout Association marched enthusiastically alongside students from Kalpohini Senior High School, Tamale Technical Institute, and Islamic Senior High School. Volunteers from the Zone D Branch also showed up in full force, demonstrating their unwavering dedication to service.
The event was further dignified by the presence of key figures, including the Head of Programs and National Disaster Manager, Mr. Jeremiah Afoko, whose leadership continues to inspire impactful humanitarian action. Also in attendance was Mr. Nguessan Edmond Yapo, Movement Specialist from the ICRC, who reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote health and community resilience.
The walk was not just an event—it was a statement. A statement of care, unity, and proactive engagement in promoting well-being across the region.
A special note of appreciation goes to the ICRC for their generous sponsorship and continued support.
