*REPORT ON DENTAL OUTREACH PROGRAMME**

Location: Zhantani Community, Tolon District, Northern Region, Ghana
*Introduction*
On 17th July 2026, Self Help Foundation GH embarked on a community outreach programme to Zhantani in the Tolon District of the Northern Region. The aim of the outreach was to engage schoolchildren and community members through free dental healthcare services and oral health education.
Activities Conducted
During the outreach, our dental team examined the oral health of children and adults in the community. We identified several dental conditions, including severe toothaches, dental plaque, calculus (tartar), and tooth decay.
To address these challenges, our resident dentist provided free dental treatments, including:
- Tooth extractions
- Professional teeth cleaning (scaling)
- Dental fillings
These services brought relief to many community members who had been living with dental pain and untreated oral health conditions.
*Oral Health Education*
Following the treatment sessions, the team conducted an educational programme for schoolchildren, parents, and other community members. The education focused on the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene and preventing dental diseases.
*Participants were taught:*
- The importance of brushing their teeth regularly.
- The correct way to brush their teeth.
- The proper amount of toothpaste to apply on a toothbrush.
- The recommended times to brush each day.
- The appropriate type of toothbrush to use.
- Good oral hygiene practices for maintaining healthy teeth and gums.
*Donation of Oral Hygiene Materials*
To encourage participants to practice the knowledge they had gained, Self Help Foundation GH distributed toothbrushes and toothpaste to schoolchildren and families in the community. This initiative was aimed at promoting good oral hygiene and reducing preventable dental diseases.
Need for Support
Although this outreach made a significant impact, many vulnerable communities continue to lack access to quality dental healthcare. Self Help Foundation GH is therefore seeking support from non-governmental organizations, corporate institutions, philanthropic partners, and generous individuals to enable us to expand our outreach programmes and provide essential dental healthcare services to underserved communities.
