. WERENGO Spearheads Infrastructure Monitoring in Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis

The Western Region Development Network of NGOs (WERENGO) is leading a ground breaking social monitoring exercise in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, leveraging the innovative Electronic Infrastructure Monitoring Tool (E-IMT). This pioneering initiative brings together a diverse team of stakeholders, including CSOs, media, traditional authorities, the National Commission on Civic Education, persons with disabilities, and identified groups.

The E-IMT, developed by CoST Sekondi-Takoradi, is a digital disclosure platform designed to enhance monitoring and reporting on infrastructure projects. This user-friendly tool allows stakeholders to input data, track progress, and generate reports, promoting transparency and accountability. Accessible via web browsers and compatible with common operating systems and devices, the E-IMT has the potential to revolutionize infrastructure monitoring.

In addition to leveraging the E-IMT, the team conducted comprehensive social audits to assess the performance, impact, and compliance of infrastructure projects with social and environmental standards. On-site visits evaluated the accessibility and social inclusivity of selected projects, including the 3-unit classroom block at Bishop Essua JHS, the Skills Training Center in Sekondi built under the European Union's Twin City In Sustainable Partnership Project, and the Adolescent Center at Essipon

The team engaged with various stakeholders, such as teachers, pupils, assembly members, artisans, and trainees, to gather their perspectives on the consultation and buy-in stages of project implementation. This inclusive approach ensures that the voices of all stakeholders are heard, promoting a more participatory and accountable infrastructure development process.
By harnessing technology and fostering collaboration, WERENGO's initiative sets a new standard for infrastructure monitoring in Ghana, paving the way for more transparent, inclusive, and effective development projects.
